Bought a Rock Machinery 22 tonne vertical and horizontal 3 years ago. Petrol powered and would not be without it. Only downside is it’s noisy, very little fuel use and will tackle anything. If you can’t or don’t fancy lifting something big onto the bench, pull a pin and down it goes and you have a vertical at ground level.
I didn’t have a tractor to spare then, I do now but would still buy this or something like it again.

I fancy a electric one as we always bring them back to the barn to split anyway and don't really like listening to a tractor ticking over for hours ! Are they up to the task ? or to slow ? any recommendations ?? cheers
Yes my Thor is electric or pto, only used the pto once, electric is great and it’s fast, two speed down and auto return.
I must admit I only split good stuff, all the crud goes in biomass boiler.
