Long forgotten Livestock Marts

This is the first one I thought of, massive ads in the farmers weekly it seemed huge was amazed when it closed. Sorry no pics.
It was how quick it closed, I think we only had a fortnight's notice before it was shut. We used to sell half the lambs liveweight, through Banbury, and the other half went to Crick. With us putting at least 1000 to 1500 lambs through there every year it was a bit of a rush to make sure we secured a way of moving them.

Anyone got any pictures of bolton market, the cattle market pub orobably had plenty of pictures inside but it burnt down a year or two ago before I got chance to get in .
The last time I saw that pub,the cattle market it was stood on some waste ground on its own, used to go to Bolton daily with barren cows to gills on lever street

Nah they were knocking it down to build the inner ring road ,Wrights moved to the new council market down sealand rd in 1972,supposed to be being all under one roof and its fancy glass fronted offices and café a market for years to come ,it lasted about 35 before it shut for ever
Chester market was fancy compared to others in Chester,

i remember crewe mart and Brian Pennington when i was a kid it was a big set up crewe being a rail town was set up on a grid system and the mart occupied three of the grid squares the fat cattle barren cattle store cattle and pigs in one yard the office sheep and calves in the middle one and the very swanky dairy ring in the third all brick built with a dining room one side of the entrance and the bank and office on the other sale room in the center and behind two double rows of cow stalls
in those days the sheep pens were full and there were seven or eight hundred calves sold each week and the pig pens were full as time went by there were less sheep and pigs but always a lot of barren cows and calves
At one time there was a railway siding in Crewe market for the cows off the Holyhead train from Ireland,,
