Deer, i would hazard a guess at fallow, if you send me a photo of the tracks with something to gauge the size (eg a coin) I'll confirm. How extensive is the damage?

Tom
Very rare to see fallow here, normally only in winter or the odd loan Buck pre rutting in Autumn.

The prints were roe which we have a healthy number of that I manage myself.

That's interesting, we normally associate maize damage with fallow but that is in an area with little pressure on roe territories so they are perhaps more selective.

Sadly prolonged drought has finally taken its toll in this corner of Salop. Crops been tassling for a week. Most crops no more than 8ft. Crops which looked stunning and really motored early season now really steadyed up and look distinctly average. Sadly!

Your sad at 8ft? Decent cob and you'll be looking at a 20t plus crop will you not?

I'm a typical farmer never happy! History suggests tasseling at this height does not bode well for final yield? 20 ton crops are a rarity if we're being honest. 15 to 18 tons/acre more common and realistic? Easy to get 20 tons an acre if you harvest a few weeks early!

I know what you mean Will, but hopefully this rain will mean heavy cobs. It motored on very fast, but has now all tassled. Maybe an early harvest .
