Here's Barleycorn posing for a picture taken by Arable Farmer (I think), who were doing a feature on tractors with electronic linkage. We had the first Marshall 100 in Hampshire in 1984, and this picture was taken shortly afterwards. She was traded for a Massey 3080, which was half the tractor, one of my most regretted decisions! I know that she went to Crawfords in Lincolnshire, but don't know her history after that. B 125 VPO, anyone recognise the number? We had a two wheel drive version too, (which would pull the 4WD 3080 round backwards when we tried!). Two tractors that should have been put in the back of a shed, but I've got a diploma in hindsight!

We bought our Marshall 100 in 1992 from Roy Rees Tractors in West Wales, but it was originally supplied by Robin Sharp. It seems he bought a batch of them when Gainsborough went belly up but it took him a few years to sell them on. Ours was made in 84 but was sold as a new machine on 88F plate. When the first owner found out it resulted in court case.

I think Crawfords could still have it !

Roy Rees was very pally with Roger Hunt, the local JD dealer, so presumably it was traded for a Deere. Ours came from Robin Sharp, he sold quite a few, the estate next to our farm had a couple of 125s. I'm not sure about him buying left over stock, but he was a bit of a wheeler dealer in his time, so would quite believe it.

Hope this isn't it ! This one was in Crawford's yard last summer. He has another one one a hedge trimmer too. Not sure if it's a 100 or a 125 the one on the trimmer.

I don't recognise the sticker behind the radiator, its not Robin Sharps, so I don't think its the one.
Considering what they are worth I would have thought it worth a shed!
Ours had a sliding hydraulic control, which was quickly replaced by a knob in later tractors.

Farmer near Horncastle in Linc's had two 100's in 2wd form. His son told me that his dad went to an event at the Gainsborough factory in the early 80's. He commented that he liked the tractors, but not the colour ! He subsequently bough the two tractors but on the understanding that they arrived painted in John Deere green and yellow wheels ! which Marshall did for him. Got a photo somewhere of one of them, and i seem to think one of them appeared in Classic Tractor at some point.

Roy Rees used to sell a lot of john Deere but don't think he was an actual official dealer. Every thing he sells is mint

One of those green ones ended up running a feeder wagon for years on a farm in Lancs, not sure if they still have it, I remember hearing that it had done over 10000 hours many years ago.

I think he had the JD dealership in Pembrokeshire during the 70's, early 80's, he owned the Carlton Tractors site in Yerbeston for a while.Brought nice combines & tractors from England to sell on, possibly exported some to Ireland?

Where are you then Barleycorn?

My Father in Law was at Northington just north of Winchester. Did the demo tractor come from a dealer at Alresford? Alton? Robin Sharp? I don't know, I forget now!!
We are near Stockbridge. Yes, it came from Robin Sharp at Arlesford.

He was a bit of a card. We bought a new Grays loader to put on our Marshall 604 from him. One of his vans turned up, closely followed by Grays lorry with the loader on it. A hell of an argument started between the van driver and the lorry driver. Apparently Robin had told the driver that our farm was 'just round the corner' so could he unload it there, just follow my van. We are about 15 miles away!

I saw one worked by a grass contractor 2 yearsrs ago just south of Glenshee, east of Ptlochry. Think it was used on a rake or such like but in everyday use.
