what sort of money you talking for one of those?Everyone is moving to 187 bales around here, 120 x 90 gives more options than a 120 x 120 with more density.
just over 100k new I would thinkwhat sort of money you talking for one of those?

Hi, im looking at a 190 baler currently to do straw and hay.
my questions are:
what should I be looking out for?
what horsepower do you need to run it?
could it be used for haylage?
what is a fair price for one at the moment?
thanks in advance.
Out of interest how much are you looking for?You can pull a 190 with 150 hp easily, unless you have very steep hills.
They may be OK for haylage if it's dryish - but if it's wet the stuffer hasn't got enough power and you won't get any top fill.
3ft high bales (MF187s are better). With 150hp you will get slightly better density with a 187 than a 190.
We have a 187 tandem axle in very good nick for sale if you're interested.
Loads to look for, but if you don't know much about them find someone who does and take them. Where in the country are you?

mf7616 is 6 cylinderWe pull our 190 with a 7616 Massey 4 cylinder no problem...
You want too check for play in the shaft, the bearing the shaft runs too the shaft, have a look at the stuffer clutch if it’s dogged right up its a good sign it’s had some grief the springs should only have a little bit of threads showing I think the actual measurement of the spring length is 32mm but couldn’t say 100%.... apart from that they’re pretty bomb proof
6716? 4cyl got nowt to do with it that engines got gruntmf7616 is 6 cylinder
Full Heston bales a waste of time now as said above. Depends how many you want to do but a reasonable baler of either Massey Krone Or possibly New Holland/Case should start from around £30k. I don’t know what your experience is but driving a baler isn’t a job for just anybody. Also be very aware that when they break they can go bang big time and cost a fortune. If you want something with good back up and fully trained staff (because like the baler driver the baler repair man is a bit specialist too) I would suggest your first port of call should be Big Bale South or North (separate companies), you will pay more but get great back up.
Good luck, apart from the finance payments and odd worry about being bankrupted by the machine big baling was one of my favourite jobs!
edit to say all 120x90 machines that are relatively modern should do haylage too, just don’t push them too hard!

moving away from the idea of a 190 and more towards a 187 or possibly a 185.

hi andrew thanks for the advice what sort of price are you looking for the 187. I'm moving away from the idea of a 190 and more towards a 187 or possibly a 185. im based in winchester
Hi Andrew, thanks for all the advice.Your local dealer (BBS) are a very knowledgable lot, I wouldn’t mind buying from them. They might even know the history or lend you a fitter to look over any potential purchase, they’d probably charge a lot though.
Further north you’ve got Nigel and Luke of Nigel Cowlen Engineering in Spalding, and Gary of Bog Bale Services Yorkshire direction, if you can’t get to look at a machine I would happily send them in my place.
Our 187 was advertised for £30k its’s full spec and never wanted for parts. It was advertised last spring though and was used lightly last season.
I have a 190 here, you will not find better, sold warranted for 500 bales, very low bale count, supplied new from big bale south.Hi Andrew, thanks for all the advice.
I have already been in touch with big bale south and they have also been helpful they actually had a 190 in recently.
I think 30k is a bit rich for my blood unfortunately. I'm hoping to spend no more then 20 really.
