Merlo Boom Suspension

The boom suspension has stopped working on my Merlo. The wires to the solenoid were bypassed long ago - when you activate the solenoid the boom raises sharply a short distance but then goes solid. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Check the wires at the bottom of the boom just as they connect to the ram. Lots of debris and crap lays just where the wires have to move to follow the ram up and down. Had to do mine a few weeks back. It had done 9.5k hours to be fair.

I’ve run new wires to the solenoid a while ago. I know it working as the boom raises a bit when you turn it on.
It seems like there is too much pressure pushing the boom up, as it appears to have a bit of suspension travel when I have 2-3 tonne on the front.

Sounds like one of the accumulators has gone. There's a thread on here about it, I put a jcb one on because it was about £500 cheaper! I can't seem to find it at the moment because I'm on my phone, I'll put a link up later.

I’ll take a look, thanks. Sounds like an expensive fix, but not having the suspension drives me round the bend.

Is it a case of taking the weight off the boom and unscrewing them or is there more to it than that?

I may rise when activated. It will only work when travelling over 3 or 5 kmph. Provided it’s still wired as new

I have it wired directly to the suspension switch. Whilst I’m sorting this problem I should probably wire it back as intended.
Is it possible to test the accumulators or best to change both?

I haven’t had time to look at it closely yet but if the accumulators have failed I’m not sure what is providing the pressure to raise the boom? Does the solenoid purely stop the flow to and from the accumulators or is there more to it than that?

if there is 2 accumulators then the low pressure 1 is flat if the boom will lift and seem to work ok with a load on

One might be gone, they are different pressures, does it work at all with weight in?

It does work with a load on (although it seems to have limited travel). Both accumulators have the same part number.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
