Moving to Bravoxin from Heptavac P

Not convinced about the P element of Heptavac and seeing a few people switching to Bravoxin. Plus Bravoxin is far cheaper.

Pros and cons?

Do I need to double dose adults that have been on Heptavac to move over to Bravoxin?

Likewise, moved the crossbred ewes over several years ago, giving one dose as their pre-lambing booster.

I have still been jagging the ewe lambs with Heptavac P, but their booster as a shearling is Bravoxin, with the rest of the ewes they’re running with.

Have you stopped routinely vaccinating lambs during their first summer ?

Heptavac is Insanely dear getting. Do any of the covexin or bravoxins cover pasteuruella at all?

No. But then Heptavac/Ovivac only cover a few strains, and some might suggest not very well at that?

Like any other insurance policy, it has to be weighed up against risk. The predatory pricing recently has meant they have made the risk more affordable than the cover in a lot of people’s minds.

We were told the P protection only lasted six weeks anyway.

Up until a couple of years ago used ovivac p in lambs then switched to bravoxin. We always had a pasturella problem in backend so would go in with ovipast vaccine (pasturella only) in august
Had a mix up in communication with a bunch this spring which we gave bravoxin and pasturella to all rest had just bravoxin
Had a bit of pneumonia/pasturella early July here, guess which bunch lost the most lambs out of- yes the pasturella treated mob.

Using Covexin 10 this year and long story short I didn't have enough for the mob I had in yesterday luckily I was marking what had been done along the way so know what hasn't been done. My question is - how close to the 6 weeks would you dare to leave it for the second jab? first was done on 6th July so 6 weeks from that date is Saturday but not sure I will be able to get them in before then. Thoughts?

Used to vaccinate with Heptavac P religiously, one late spring I had a ewe dead at the back of a hedge on three consecutive mornings, sent them for PostMortem all came back as Pasturella, phoned local rep and explained the situation. Rep brought me the MSD rep two days later who told me I had no recourse as Hep P covers one or maybe two strains of Pasturella and there are NINE different strains in sheep. Comeplete con. Have used Bravoxin ever since, cheap as chips.

Same here.
Bravoxin price means I don't worry if I have to discard a part bottle

I think hep p covers 7 strains but there are near 30 out there 🤷‍♂️
Also hep p is now near 40/50 years old hasn’t been updated much. Done with it now myself too

Even then, they'd just question how you could be sure they were all done properly - don't ask how I know 🤦🏻‍♂️
