Good idea to take one of the tour buses, tickets last all day AFAIK and they take you pretty much everywhere of interest.

Maybe cruise the whole circuit to get your bearings, and they decide where you fancy visiting and just get off and on as you want.

Iā€™m 90% sure this can be done as described, if so itā€™s a day well spent.

Having meal at one of the high rise restaurants is also good, maybe breakfast so you can go do other things later. Iā€™ve had breakfast here https://duckandwaffle.com/london/ views are great.
Im not a fan of Covent Garden, prefer Camden but probably not at the top of your list if time constrained.
if you like buildings architecture etc itā€™s quite nice just picking an area and walking round, you have to look up to see a lot of the interesting stuff, you miss a lot by using underground to get everywhere.

TBH, it will depend on the teenage interests, but the big Museums are great.

Natural History, Science, V&A, War Museum... All worthy of a day alone for each one!

It depends what you and your family are into. We quite like a museum so Science Museum and Natural History museum and British Museum are good. Also Imperial War museum. Tate Modern is impressive for the turbine hall- the actual ā€˜artā€™ is more debatableā€¦
Tower of London; excellent. Went last summer just before the Jubilee, but get there when it opens and go to see the Crown Jewels first when thereā€™s no queue- it soon builds to an hour or two long!
Heading down for 2 days in London Town with our eldest (10yo) at the start of Aug (to see a new opera based on the kids book ā€˜Itchā€™ by Simon Mayo). Hoping the trains and tube behave šŸ¤ž. Have booked to see the massive dino skeleton at the Nat Hist museum.

Tempted to go to the ā€˜Milkā€™ exhibition at the Welcome Collection, but it would only wind me up šŸ˜”

A West End show Thats if you don't mind having your wallet molested, just to sit through 2 hours of camp warbling.

Accommodation, the Premier Inn at old GLC building on the South Bank is great value, a big breakfast, and as central as it gets.

2nd the Imperial War Museum, but it's bit of treck if the tube drivers are still complaining that Ā£59,000 isn't enough.

Probably not one for the teenagers. but I found the Freemasons hall tour very interesting, itā€™s basically the head temple in a very fine art deco building so much that a lot of scenes from famous films are shot there. Pre Covid you got an escorted tour a look round the museum and regalia. The chap that took us round could play the huge organ and asked any requests ,we thought Nimrod was appropriate and he belted it out. Amazingly for London it was all free . Ps I am not a mason.

how old are the teenagers in question?

London is great fun, but try not to cram too much in, it will drain you, you can always come back. You can do tours around the House of Commons, and regardless of how political you are, just going even nearby gives you a measure of the place, but going on the tour will help you understand how things work, it's also really interesting. Once you're in the area, most stuff is in walking distance, so do check before you jump on the tube, because it's often quicker to walk.

We did a chocolate tour, which was good and of particular interest on any female family members.

Borough Market is good for food.

There's all manner of live entertainment, all of the biggest acts will perform in London, along with world class sport.

I understand it's nothing like as busy as it was, with people working from home, but it's great fun and the best bit is leaving it all behind.
