My John Deere

Who uses my John Deere, I use it to monitor problems, if a machine is going to need fuel soon and if the tractor has stopped for the night ( for H&S not snooping ). There is so much that can be done but I wonder how much is necessary or utilised? I would expect it’s a very good harvester of data too?

Not just JD but all the manufacturer systems doing this are getting free info from you about your business. A farm running this on the entire fleet including yield maps are effectively giving gross margins away to the manufacturers who can then have that data professionally analysed by accountants so they can see profit margins using standard market info. This can then be used to push machinery prices up.

Basically your giving your business secrets away.

Just imagine they see how many hours and fuel used to establish a crop, then how it’s looked after with fert and chem rates and then how much you harvest and at what moisture. It’s to much info to give away for free. They should be paying for it and anybody who says all these companies don’t analyse or utilise the data, you're having a laugh.

Only just seen your thread, we use it and really like it, still getting to grips with a lot of its functions and using the My Operations app alongside it. Mainly use it for yield mapping, starting properly this coming harvest now we've gone from 2 slightly older machines to 1 new one, have mapped all the fields out with boundary lines that we work do work on (came to 273 fields we discovered the other day!!:dead:) and added proper guidance lines by drawing them in on the computer then uploading them to all the machines, not the mismatch of field names and lines we had before when they were entered by different operators on different machines. Not doing variable rate anything yet and still to really get into the work planning stuff but the JD link functions to be able to see where each machine is, what its doing and its stats is quite useful! Really not that paranoid about JD seeing some of our data, we don't put in our fert/chem/seed/diesel prices etc so anything they can work out using standard prices for inputs etc they can probably work out anyway.

Not many users then?
I’ve been using it since 2014, not really in to much anger though. I don’t have any machines with jd link so no real time data been uploaded apart from yield maps through the app. There’s also a lot of field data from contracting work so would be hard to sort that from my own so not much use to anyone trying to analyse my business!
I find the app handy for quick referencing field sizes, drilling and application dates/rates etc. I also quite like the yield map analyser and so do my customers, I can upload maps straight to their my jd so no messing about printer them.
I also use variable rate seed and fert so it’s good to be able to look at the maps whilst in the field and cross reference the actual points when rates have been changed.
Altogether find it a pretty good system to use and keep tractor field/gps data backed up.

Not john deere but the jcb live link is scary how much data you can access. There are dozens of pages of graphs and charts down to the engine stats of power usage during each part of the day, idle time, average speeds, fuel charts, time spent in each gear etc etc all live and historic on the forklift.

It does appear that the yield mapping is very good.

A lot of trucking companies use similar systems to constantly monitor drivers. You can give them a daily score if you want. Stamp on the brakes a bit hard, the boss gets an instant e mail. G force sensor says you're cornering too hard its all recorded. You can mark areas on the map to make sure drivers aren't speeding in town etc.
That's before you get to dash cams and driver facing cams, or fatigue cameras as they call them now.
They can sometimes help the driver of course but that's not why they're there.

I’ve been using it for a few years, I find it fantastic. We all older tractors so no jd link but usb is fine. It’s great that you can go through and streamline what data is available in each display before spring or harvest or autumn. Makes it’s much more straightforward forward for the less competent operators. I see you can now use it to create prescription maps base one yield maps or possibly soil test maps but I haven’t played with that yet. And also you can store all machine offsets etc centrally so you can make sure every display is working with the same parameters.

although it’s seems to be slow since it updated to new look interface. Having trouble adding new implements today which I never had before

I'm looking forward to reading the Nuffield report on data usage by a mate of mine;

Does it notify the operator with regards to when a new head gasket maybe needed?

I think you can remotely view engine temp, perhaps have it send a warning when it's getting hot? So it might save a few, when the driver isn't paying attention or can't be arsed to blow the radiators out

Reminds me of a story from years ago when this tech was just being tested. The driver of a development forager got a phone call and was told to get out and check his rotary screen as it was blocked. He didn't know what was going on but checked and it had stopped. Turns out the techs had been remote monitoring it and had seen the engine temp rise before the driver did.
