New claas arion thoughts

Watched the recent Grassmen video and the man they were filming runs a full Claas fleet. During the video they talk about the Arion 800 and the Arion 600 and mentions the engines in both (800 being FPT and 600 being Deere) but they said they've heard that Claas will be moving away from the Deere engine in the 600. Is there truth in that? It's been rumoured for years that they'll go full FPT or even Perkins.
Will it finally be happening?

Why is it no1 seems to like perkins engines? Wev had a heap of masseys with them over the years with very little trouble and they all did high hours before they were sold. Just cant see what the problem is

Don't think it's meant that there's any dislike to the Perkins, just more the fact the 400 and 800 both run FPT so no doubt they have a well developed relationship with them so would make sense to stick with them if they are looking to move away from DPS.

The Perkins in our digger is a lovely motor.

My personal gripe with Perkins has to do with its performance (or lack of) in cold climate. Won't start, leaks oil and older one (on MF390) needed two rebuilds in 6 years. Mediocre engine imo.

The parts for a perkins is a fraction of the cost of most other brands though, even filters are dirt cheap. The 390 is a hard starter in cold conditions, but wev 2 4370s and they are easy starters and the iirc the only thing iv needed on the 1 with over 15000 hours is a water pump and injector pump overhaul and couple of lift pumps, the rest is untouched and still starts first turn. Serviced every 250 hours with shell oil mabe helps 🤷‍♂️

No im not saying that it wouldnt make sence to stick with fpt. But it just seems manufacturers all moved away from perkins but i never understood why unless it came down to cost which would be unlikely given parts prices for perkins is cheaper than say a sisu or deutz

Perkins were bought by Caterpillar, and that was the start of many tractor makers dropping them.

Manufacturers don't buy parts though that's for the end user and as a full engine they may have been dearer. Jcb starting to make their own engines didn't do perkins many favours. It would take a lot of income from them right when r+d needed a big budget to keep up with emissions regs changes.
