New dairy setup in Denmark

I thought i'd upload some pictures of my ongoing project.

I'm building a shed with about 300 cubicles with sand bedding, a "wellness" area with loose housing for 50 cows and a 40/40 Boumatic side-by-side parlour with a 24.000l tank.
Then i will have another silage pit in addition to the 3 i already have and we will make a shed for concentrates (soya, osr cake, grain, sugarbeet pellets and what not)

I'm suppose to be able to put cows in cubicles sometime i august and start milking in the new parlour around 1st of october.

They will start erecting the cubicles building monday and the parlour biulding will follow soon.

The entire setup is going to be build on "slagge" which is "garbage" from powerstations after burning waste. It includes a lot of different stuff, but it's easy to compact and it's delivered here free of charge. We've had about 11.000 tons so far. Compared to building on sand, i've probably saved about £70.000-80.000 so far.

More pictures will follow as we get on with it.

The dairy job is clearly better in some countries than others

Unfortunately not.
I'm an Arla member, and get the same as everyone else. I am far from making money with my current setup and current price, and my new setup also can't make milk for what i get right now. I can however, make milk considerably cheaper with the new setup than i do today, and i now bet my economical future on better prices than we have now. If not, this will be a short spin!

On the upside, it's about 40% cheaper to build now, than in 2008 when i last tried to get going. At that time i couldn't get an environmental permision to expand. After 2009 it's been all about getting finance.

we bought cows from a farm that were milking in an old hosier 30 degree parlour
trying to get them to stand at nearly 60 degrees was a monumental task , let alone 90

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
