New Truck

The interior of the Disco 4 or Range Rover or Volvo XC90 (the new one) is easily comparable with most high end cars, IE Merc S class. Couple that with some very funky suspension and you have a very comfortable ride.

They are a million miles away from anything the pick-up world can offer, large but relaxed engines, spangly automatic gearboxes, they virtually drive themselves.

Seriously, for anyone who lives in a rural locale and has serious motorway miles to do they are near perfect. They will cost more to run than a 5 series or E class or Jaguar XF I agree (and those cars are no slouches either) but they will cope with potholes and rougher roads better I think.

I quite like the Jaguar F Pace, looks pretty tasty, of course Lexus offer an upmarket SUV but the last model had a very peculiar ride. Way more reliable than anything Euro-built as well or so I am led to believe.

Buy extended warranty and get rid once it has expired would be my advice. Q7 is ugly, the Porka version slightly less so maybe. I don't really do VAGwagens to be honest.

Jag, Land Rover or Volvo would be the 3 main contenders in my book.

OR maybe an Audi Allroad A6???

Let's face it, almost any modern car would do the job. It comes down to convincing yourself that you really need the biggest , most expensive 4x4, when in reality a Ford Focus would do.
Ford Focus woukd last me 6 months and like to see you get a family of growing teenagers and Mrs Shop in a focus .ive driven to cardiff in a Clio today with my
Knees against my chin . And given that i spend a good part of my life in a car and work damned hard i think i deserve a bit of comfort. And lastly if some idiot drives into me with my family on bourd i want a bit of strong metal to prottect them
Have you thought of going back to a Nuffield universal after all it would do the same job with a good donkey jacket and a wooley hat
But thank you for your constuctive advice

Neighbour has a base model Toerag on a 2. Year deal £250 per month, a hundred less per month than VW could do. Put down an"fair" deposit... don't know details, but there are deals to be done....
Nice motor !

Bit touchy Derrick.
I did say it comes down to personal choice. You were implying that you needed a 4x4 to get to farms. Funny how the postman manages in a van, and most people in the country drive normal family cars all around the country.
As for being constructive , I mentioned what a very good SUV the Honda CR-V is. Well priced and reliable with good mpg and comfortable. But probably not the correct badge for you:whistle:

I also need a motor for the wife
Then get a pickup and a car. Use the pickup for local and towing and use the car for long journeys. Share the mileage between the two i.e. two doing 25k rather than one doing 40k and the other doing 10k??? The car would do double the mpg of the pickup and probably three times what your toerag is doing.

Went to lunch with a neighbour today in his CR-V noticed it was showing 54.9mpg very respectable.

Hurrah for the echo. But Derrick doesn't want a small car (except for the mpg), doesn't want to do the miles in a pickup ...............
