So what’s the REAL story as to why Andrew Ward, Ollie Harrison and Martin Williams are not running for positions. Have they been told they are not allowed to because it would upset the gravy train?

Only got 15,000 members so it’s largely irrelevant anyway. When government realise this they’ll be forgotten about anyway.

I think it's nearer 30,000, roughly halved in a few years.

15,000 farmer members. 35,000 none farming members such as supermarkets and corporates.
However the largest section is the villagers who are insurance customers but then join the Nfu to get the insurance discount. Just another way to boost numbers.

NFU have been restructuring. That's telling isn't it.

As for the President position. Circa £100k/annum and only one applicant, but lots for deputy and vice.

Seems strange.

It is just the sort of election that they have always had in Russia for the top job. If I was Tom, I would not want to be elected on this basis as it gives no endorsement of his ideas without the alternative ideas of an opponent. He will not know whether his path has the support of the membership or not.
This sort election is fine at branch level where a candidate is usually persuaded to stand in the absence of any other candidates just to fill the post. We need something more than just the post filled in this case and an alternative view of what the union could be and should be, should have been represented.
The unrest will continue.

Anyone who has a working business & family future to look after doesn't have the time to play politics in the Not Farming Union - which is why it is the Not Farming Union

I agree with you about the lack of any democracy, but in 2 years time Bradshaw will still be president of the NFU and we will have the GFC nonsense. There is nothing we can do to stop it except stop giving them our money.
