Oaf in humans

I'm guessing, after the replies he's had, @Devil's advocate won't be reading anything on this thread this morning - he'll already be sitting in a queue at the doctor's 😖🤒🤕
or sitting on the phone, trying to telephone the Doctor's surgery, then when he gets through being given the third degree interrogation by the receptionist, followed by "we have an appointment in three weeks"

Had it on my finger several years back and ended up being admitted to hospital on IV antibiotics after noticing pain tracking to my arm pit area. Cue 3 days of this and pretty constant monitoring with biro markings as the infection tracked up my arm and then slowly started to recede. Surgery to debride the lesion. Surgeon had never seen it before and it seemed somewhat surreal that we were both in the theatre googling the infection on our phones to try and demonstrate what Orf was.

I have it atm
Was quite poorly about a week into it. Had 67 nasty spots everywhere that some orfy hoggs had touched my arm and all up my side. Felt horrendous for three days then came through it and all spots went down to red pimples apart from 4 bad ones that look like classic orf. Was worried tbh thought blood poisoning was setting in up my arm but it came back down my vein before it got too high up
That sounds a bit like Shingles.

Had it many years ago on the side of my face just in front of my ear. Treated it with iodine spray and it went eventually but left a rough patch of skin there. Good job I sport a full beard and don't have to shave.
As others have said, I thought that once you had had it you were immune to it for life.

Because given how many of us have plenty of opportunities to catch it, it happens quite rarely and I don't think a kick in the mouth would be the easiest way for it to be transmitted. Especially when @Devil's advocate said it bled a lot and the mouth is good at dealing with bacteria/ viruses in general.
But that is purely my opinion based on no real knowledge.
I know a farmer who had Orf in his mouth.

Considering how a lot of us have scare stories about humans getting orf it seems a bit odd why the NHS have very little knowledge of it or how to treat it 🤔

Probably shows how much of a minority we are in the grand scheme of things

They would be the ones from when Mrs YB had a blister on her finger that went wrong.
She caught it off a cade lamb.

Doctors had no idea what it was or what to do about it.

I had a fair idea what it was, as I'd had it years before (but nowhere near as bad) eventually the doctors realised that, as it's a virus, there's no real cure for it but it's the secondary infection is what causes the big problem and that's what needs treating.
