Over yearing wheat seed

Dont forget to check the varieties latest sowing date, jan-feb for most varieties. You will end up with expensive grass if it doesnt have enough cold weather on it.
[emoji106] Have Graham, Avatar, Skyfall and this Gleam to choose from. What's the odds of not getting any window in Jan or Feb? High I fear. Jan and Feb this year was a one off.

What about Austral dressing, if someone had some of it left over would they still be legally allowed drill it next year?

And out of interest does it keep for a year?
No not legally, and no the greatest at over wintering. Bloody stuff to be honest im glad its gone, burnt the skin on my face this year when filling the drill. (great on wireworm though!)

Because the date on the label is always supposed to be the year of certification in the field.

Blending subverts the rules.

It should be banned.
I can see why you have that view.

But, firstly it rarely happens and I mean rarely. So for example I can only recall us doing it once or twice in the last 4 years. We would only tend to do it when we were trying to ensure we had enough multiplication seed of a variety, so not commercial and you would blend in such a proportion that you would be sure to come out with a high germ. If not you risk losing both the seed lot with the high germ and the one with the lower.

You then have to go through the certification process with your new samples in the same way you would for a crop from a new harvest.

There is no point in risking sending out stock you think is dodgy - it will always cost you far more than you mark on the original sale.

Just drill it next year and be done with it.

Anyone over-yearing seed needs to have the stuff properly germ tested in the summer before it is used. Keep it cool, in the dark and dry as a chip and well protected from vermin.

I will plant a couple of fields for home saving if we get a dry enough 2 weeks
the seed was not delivered till after it rained or it would have been planted
I had that problem too with a white wheat variety that didnt appear till mid October. Got it drilled but not in planned fields!
