Yet another tragedy. Lots of usual platitudes from the politicians but I guess they can't do much else

Ten or so arrested from 13-30

Initially no description of how the officer died

Now it's emerging.

Dragged along the road by a vehicle

Later, reports in the media of the camp up the road being raided

Innocent until proven guilty, not wanting to prejudice the enquiries or prosecution case


I hope they stop this hands off the camps policy now

I hope they go in hard and get the evidence and the culprits


Then I hope the politicians come back on and start to tell it how it is and that there will now be zero tolerance for the lawlessness

Politicians who say he didn't die in vain. Not sure

I still remember WPC Yvonne Fletcher gunned by a Diplomatically immune firearm frm inside the Libyan Embassy . Her memorial stone (erected by Michael Winner, Police Memorial Trust founder) was subsequently vandalised too

Channel 4 News even ran with the Prince Andrew / Epstein old allegations as their lead story. Absolutely disgusting

I said to my wife earlier in the day that the case felt like Travellers, even before the above info came out. I know of two Coppers who have first hand experience of Travellers doing almost anything to get away from a pursuit and into the safety of a travellers encampment... and sod the consequences to anyone else!

But as you say, innocent until...

I guessed it was they who must not be mentioned as soon as the numbers of people arrested came out. You don't get that many of any other sort of criminal involved in one incident. Gang violence in London maybe, but out in the sticks there's only one direction to look...............

I should imagine that the genuine Romanies who once traveled the country working the land and seasonal jobs (rather than staying on one camp all their lives) would be turning in their graves seeing the feckless, lazy, cowardly criminal scum hiding behind their heritage.

Just seen on news about a caravan site next to where the murder? took place. Bloody travelers responsible so it seems. Just a tragic event and the spineless leaders need to grow some balls and help people get justice and stand up to the scum of society

I am sure this thread will become more opinionated as the facts become clear but I do know that issues we have had around here TVP have been very helpful and proactive.

There is a tiny, tiny percentage still around. We had a guy round the farm a few years ago. A proper old school gypsy who traveled with his sons operating a tree surgery business. We were pretty apprehensive about letting him into the yard, let alone employ his services but he had done some work for some neighbours who vouched for him so we tasked him with clearing a load of massive leylandii which had got out of control.

He was with us for a fortnight and camped on the farm. He said there was no way he would stay on any of the local sites as they were rife with drugs and theiving and he was desperately trying to keep his boys away from that lifestyle. He blamed the problems with modern pikeys on the influx of Irish Travelers and life being way to easy for recent generations of gypsies with the rise of council parks, easy benefits and PC laws enabling the criminal element to "get away with it". To the point where on some camps if you were trying to live straight and honest you were ostracised and bullied until you left or joined in.

Basically all the protections, pandering and pussyfooting around travelers has destroyed their ancient heritage rather than preserve it.

The trouble is the top brass get reined in on PC agenda controlling them

That's nothing new.

A group of TVP started (on a voluntary basis) the Don't Be Dozy Take a Break campaign and we helped them no end. In the end the politicos reined them in after the y got embarrassed when the Chief Constable of Devon and Cornwall visited and the spotlight started to be pointed to the possible causes of the terrible minibus tragedy higher up the M40.

Every time they want to tackle crime emanating from camps, there are plenty who help the "residents" claim victimisation, it isn't even about strength and numbers to enter any more. The UK has too many lawyers ......
