does anyone have any info on the gas emission of plant residues that are left in the field.
getting sick of the vegans going on about cattle gas emissions, and was wondering if any research has been done on the emission of plants as they break down ?

Plant residue turns into carbon dioxide left in a dryish field in the presence of air and bacteria.
If it gets trapped under water in wet ground, flooded wetlands, etc it turns into methane. Both methane and carbon dioxide are greenhouse gases.
Plants give out carbon dioxide at night.

Yes I know that, but do we know the amounts that are released, after all we all being told to eat less beef du to there gas release, I want to know what the same amount of plants will release

Unfortunately that quote from Christine Baes is not correct, although it sounds like it should be. It has been shared all round the tinternet so is assumed to be correct.

I think she was correctly quoted but has been somehow misrepresented within the context of the quote. I rather think she meant that no extra carbon dioxide is released ultimately but got lost in her own sentence. It was during an interview and so easily done. She does not mention the fact that grass decomposing in the presence of air is not the same as the anaerobic reaction inside the rumen, so cattle do actually yield more methane. There are no extra carbon atoms but that isn‘t what she said, even if she meant to say that.

Edit; the Ethical Butcher piece is otherwise a good example of explaining things properly and in context.
