I purchased a 2016 ranger 1000 9 months ago with 600 hours and all was great until March since then it’s had
6 wheel bearings
4 brake discs and pads
Electric diesel pump
1 rear hub
Gear lever cable
Accelerator cable
Low gearbox is banging when selected
And now steering rack has packed in Weve put 500 hours on it since purchase most driven by my father purchased it so he would be able get around handier than a Jeep. is it just bad luck or are they a heap of sh1te

2012 900 diesel here. Now done 1000 hours so little used really but in those 1000 hours it’s had clutch issues but really that’s it to be honest. It’s extremely good on fuel as well.

Your last three words of the last paragraph summed up our experience with a ranger. Great machine when going, fairly fast and agile, easy on fuel. But keeping it going was an expensive nightmare, mostly drive shafts. Now got a Kubota 900. Yes it is slow and not so agile, but keeps going. Had it 2 years now and apart from basic servicing and tyres, replaced one rear uj and part of the steering linkage. One person told me that a ranger is built by a company that makes quads and uses similar spec parts on the ranger whereas Kubota don't make quads so specced their rtv parts to the standard they should be. The Kubota is not the machine to try and stop cattle that have decided to make a run for it though!

I actually went to buy a kubota but when I got to the dealers yard the ranger was sitting on the truck just after being delivered to him thought the extra speed and drive comfort was great!! How wrong was I!!

I have a 12 plate one and yep heap of junk. To date 4 wheel bearing, steering rack , 2 hubs, 2 rear brake callipers, drive shaft, accelerator cable and brakes all round. Do the repairs myself but parts day light robbery if you ask me. Mostly driven by my 70 year old old man so not ragged by any means.

I’ve come to the conclusion that no make of utv is Bullett proof but we just can’t operate with out them here anymore so we just keeping until warranty is up which is March on my kubota and it’s nearly impossible to get dealers to agree price or delivery date for jd Polaris or kubota only dealer that came back was Corvus

Local Polaris dealer wasn’t overly interested in giving us a demo
Honda dealer sent us a pioneer and upon collecting it said they were now Corvus dealers and sent us a demo , I liked the Corvus and done a deal , machine was here within the week, happy with it so far

We have been looking into the job as well. Neighbour let us have a go with his Polaris diesel and although better than our gators of old is still noisy and sluggish for road work. Dealer wanted 18k and none available to end of the year. Petrol can am on lpg is over 20k and tank to hire on top of that so decided not to bother for now and stick with a quad……it will be summer soon🥶

Ran a Polaris from new , had few problems in warranty, second year was a nightmare all the issues the OP had complete pig of a thing and hellish pricy parts. When it was going it was a great tool. Became too unreliable in the end to carry on. Traded for Honda Pioneer , using petrol is a pain but a great truck , hard as nails.

you’ll get a non genuine steering rack from all spares in Gorey, Wexford. Just under £200 I think.
Was the rubber boot away? This lets water in and then the grease escapes, and a little bush wears out.
They need regular maintenance, and kept clean. Shite, bale wrap, baler twine, wool etc around the drives shafts and bearings and they don’t last long.

Unfortunately, the list of items you have listed are all normal on them.
Check the throttle stop, that it is making contact with the pedal, otherwise you’ll stretch the cable again if Yo are driving flat out all the time.

You can see working around them, that they’re not any heavier built than a quad, but that is also a good thing on soft ground.

Steering Rack?
Is there a universal joint coupler anywhere between the Steering Wheel and the rack?
Splines on a coupler can wear out and slip. Much cheaper than a rack.

Yeah, there is one onto the steering rack, but it’s easily checked.
Fits on to the splined input shaft.
Problem is usually a little bush wears inside the housing that the pinion runs in, allowing it to move above, causing very vague steering. Normally caused by ingress of crap from a split boot.
They‘re actually cheaper now than a few years ago. £125 in that link
You know when there is aftermarket parts that are readily available , that’s it’s a common issue.
Depending on how much play there is, you may get away by tightening the nut slightly, which pushes the rack closer to the pinion.
But if the rubber gaiters are gone I wouldn’t chance it if you drive on the road a lot. It could jam on you.
