Potatoes splitting

What is the cause of these potatoes “splitting” please?

Second growth, dry conditions tubers halt, wet conditions off they grow, splits develop then heal. See also dollies.

Good point, potatoes desperate things for herbicide damage.

Sulfonylureas cause star-like cracking. These don't affect viability of daughter tubers

Glyphosate does affect viability of daughter tubers and can be symptomless although cracking can occur at high doses

Aminopyralid/clopyralid can cause tuber cracking and uneven growth. I don't know if they affect daughter tubers.

Really difficult to be sure sometimes as insufficient tank washing can lead to widespread damage as opposed to drift that is confined to proximity of treated grass or cereals.

I had that problem last year and fed the small ones to the cattle. Too big a risk I thought.

I tell people they are a special Jacket potatoe variety and the crack is where the butter goes .

Yep looks very like spray damage lost 2 acres of PB 2 kerspink seed crop
Neighbor burned of grass feald beside it and spry drifted over crop

I would not use for seed.

Can powdery scab cause similar symtoms?

Possibly virus. As for keeping for seed can get virus tested at NIAB or FERA - but about £300 sample.

We had Ramos exactly the same, seed was full of virus. Didn't see it in the seed though.
