Pottinger 6010 or pottinger 6510 for 240hp

Evening all,
I was looking for some views on the above, I’m currently running a torro 5100 and looking to go up a size or two for next season and was just wondering what power people are running there combiline 6010 6510? Ground varies from flat to slightly steep. Seen a 300hp tractor on demo with a 72 cube wagon and felt they were a good match on the slightly steeper ground on a full load and was still pulling well up hill felt 240 would lose momentum. Will be looking at second hand too, which there are a lot more 6010s out there unless look abroad and find some 6510s
TIA

I have a 6010 jumbo on a valtra t190 and it flies but more power would speed it up more, I have a valtra t254 on a 7210 jumbo and it also flies along using up all the power , I wouldn’t see much benefit in having any more power on the 7210 but the 6010 could do with a 240 hp on it. The secret with wagons is only pick dry grass , wet grass needs at least 50 hp more. I also have a torro on a T170 and it is a perfect match too. The jumbo 6010 is a hell of a good wagon . Make sure you buy a wagon with forced steering , these bigger wagons are very hard on tyres if the steering is locked.

Thank you for the feed back, I was swaying towards the 6010 just as you say in wet grass you can still get output and if sticky ground conditions still have a good chance of not leaving too much of a mess. Will keep an eye out for the forced steering ones. Do you run with a front weight for the road to with the bigger wagons?

We have run a Torro 5700 (that’s 35 cube) on 160hp and 220hp. The smaller tractor was an ideal match to it even when on reasonable slopes. Wouldn’t pack as much into each load but didn’t feel like you were dogging the machine.
Looking at going to 40-42 cube for next season on 240hp

I only put on the front weight if the field is wet , no need for the weight on the road burning tyres.

Forced steering is not an option , it’s an essential , I would never own a wagon without it.

No it is an option, will be fine with a passive system with auto-lock for reverse. Never had a problem with our 5700 on a follow axle. Tried active steering on the tri-axle demo 7210 and didn't like it as it makes the drawbar wider and you loose steering lock, plus there is the extra expense of double ball hitch.

When you go to bigger wagons on 710 tyres you need it or tyres last no length , reversing 4 locked 710 tyres is very hard on the tyres and bearings , the ball hitch is safer and saves you money as pottinger rings wear out , ball and spoon hitches never wear . I don’t have a 3 axle but what you say about the drawbar with 2 axles doesn’t make a differance , with forced steering the wagon starts steering sooner meaning it follows around behind the tractor better so there’s no need to lock against the draw bar as much. I have a torro after doing 15 seasons on origionial tyres that are still 80% . The jumbo has 6000 loads and the tyres are 95% , so the forced steering has saved me a lot of money.

The new wagon will have a spoon hitch but I don't think it will have active steering. There is loads of thread left on the 650s on the Torro and fortunate to have good size yards so not having to do tight reverse turns, it is just pulling into a couple of fields off the road where I had to go tight with the tri-axle. This is not for contracting work. Anyway we are digressing from the original posters question

Have a torro 6010 behind a claas 650, 185hp. No front weight.Could do with more power on hills. Buckracke only just keeps up now so no need. I only do short trips furthest field 1.5km away.

What tonnes of silage in a 7210 jumbo full ?20?
Is forced steering on a tandem axle most suitable for hire work?
The jumbo 7210 is bringing up to 25 ton of grass , forced steering is the only option for a big wagon, otherwise thers last no length. It steers in reverse , big wide tyres that can’t steer take some abuse in reverse when reversing around a corner in a yard.
