Power harrow eradicator tines

Hi there,

I run a 3m kuhn / accord power harrow drill combination. I have been considering using different wheel equipment (18.4 x 38 standard) for when I am drilling but cannot really justify the cost, duals will not fit in the width. I use the same tractor for ploughing and drilling, sometimes on the same day when after beet so obviously have issues swapping wheels etc.

I see Andrew Guests do an eradicator tine kit to go on a Kuhn. They do 2 tine and 4 tine kits. My experience of using eradicator tines on drills tell me if the tine is where the wheel has run they just snap, I have usually had to run them on the edges of the wheel mark to scuff some soil in the hollow.

Would a single tine behind each wheel work and be strong enough or would I have to use 2 tines per side?

Ps. I have no stone by the way

Thanks

IMHO, a single tine just leaves a bigger hole (a power harrow will fill it in a bit though).
The best arrangement we ever came up with (although this was for a drill only) was an A-blade running in the wheeling (to loosen it) and a straight tine on either edge of the wheeling (to fill it in)....

Some of the tines for 'filling in' were on the drill, if they were on the subframe that we built, they blocked up too much.

I use the Andrew Guest tines, I use to have two behind each wheel (710’s) but found it pushed a lot of soil and dragged up to much wet crap on our heavy ground. Just have one in the centre of each wheel now and the do a decent job of removing any compaction.
I do break the odd shear bolt occasionally, usually on the headlands or pull out onto a track on the last run. we have some big stones about but the shear bolts work well.

We’ve used the Guest eradication times for the last 15 years on combi drill.

work a treat at taking wheelings out. And apart from an occasional shear bolt breaking are hassle free.
