Press Wheels on PH/Combi Disc Coulters

We have a Kuhn PH/Combi Drill, it has disc coulters and a following harrow,(see picture below) but no press wheel to follow behind the disc's in front of the following harrow.

I can retro fit a Press Wheel to bolt on to the disc assembly, but its not a cheap exercise, approx £6000 for the 3m machine.

Is having these Press Wheels a help? I assume they firm the immediate area around the soil covered seed and possibly negate the need for rolling in a catchy season. Reading the blurb in the opps manual I see that these Kuhn ones can be lifted out of the way if the conditions dictate, so that they wouldn't smear the ground.

Anyone running them care to comment on their usefulness or not, for the last couple of years we have used the combi a bit more than normal, so would like know if I am missing a trick by not having them.

Thanks

Have them on ours but have them lifted out all the time, find in really rough conditions the press wheel rides over a clod and lifts the disc coltour out with it. You also end taking ages to adjust them for each field
also a fair bit of weight added to the far rear of the drill

Press wheels help to find moisture in a dry year. They don’t negate the need for a roll which is the primary reason to break all clods for a good pre em /post em spray
