Not the only one, there's another I know of just outside of Exeter with the very same outcome, bloody Tory government stupidity yet again.
I doubt its a Conservative thing but more a global trend lead out by the desire of international organisations including NGO's in order "to save the world" while creating a revenue stream to fund their lifestyle at everyone else's expense.

Glad to see that Private Eye is onto this.

It's important the Trust takes this seriously, or its heavy handedness will be misused by that astroturfing element which has been attacking it with a view to dismantling.

It's a Conservative thing in England in as much as it is they that have designed the new subsidy system to divert to the National Trust & large estates money from traditional livestock farms, it's a no brainer for those estates to milk the system & give up producing food for easy money for 10 years.

Do ye think thee Labour/lunatic left would have either not done it or done it more effectively???

Oh wait , maybe in some parallel universe but no chance on this planet!!!
Our "left" would sell their grandmother if she thought it would be to her advantage!!!

I was heavily involved in writing this article along with Bio Waste Spreader, hopefully the national press will get hold of it.
Apparently Ian Hislop of the PE was asked how his publication got so many good scoops, coverage and investigative journalists reporting stuff that MSM doesn't get. He simply said people phone us, tell us about what's going on and we write it down!

Well done for helping in this.

City boys looking to financial greenwashing and the political wonks writing policy wont like it. It's very unusual for PE to do a heartfelt piece like this - a family suffering against a misguided institution like the NT. It's of little help to the family but very useful for the rest of us who scrabble about trying to rent land.

It seems from the article they were doing a lot, you say that you rent land so would you have gone as far on a ten year lease from the likes of NT ?

When it is your only farm and you can see the potential to diversify would you sit there and do nothing? Particularly when you have a son that has been verbally promised the tenancy?
It is very easy for an outsider to throw stones with hindsight!

yes I knew I would get lambasted for that post as soon as I wrote it.
re read it and you will find it was a question, one I may get an answer to.

I will answer your first question though, no I wouldn't sit and do nothing I would farm like I had ten years and counting down left to go,

I am not throwing stones I asked a question and its not in hindsight I wasn't/am not prepared to spend money on someone else's property I couldn't/can't recoup in the time I had/have, if I did I would have to be prepared to walk away from it.
in other words I farm land that is not mine and have done in the past, I know its not mine and knew that.

Your second question is more tricky for me as I don't have a son, I think a verbal agreement is binding, is there still a tenancy to be had ? did NT say that the new tenancy would be the same after the old one ran out ?
please note these are questions.

If you read the Private Eye article it will answer your questions. You have a different mindset to me, I always try and make the most of what opportunity I have at the time. Our diversification kept us going through tough farming times on that place. If we hadn't have diversified we wouldn't have survived. It feels like we got kicked for having a go.All done with the NTs permission and funded by ourselves without borrowing. It all had to stack finacially.
I hope that answers your question.
