This is my version. Not quite the typical Cardi version which uses baler twine both for the gate and for the loops holding the two posts together closed. Mine is more a Harrods-Cardi version. Sort of ‘super deluxe’.

What @eulb posted above, is more the type of closing system I was talking about, we'd use a hardwood batten instead of a purpose-built device

and when they snap, you clonk your head on the post and fall into a few strands of barbwire, simple as
I saw something similar in Oz, length of water pipe, with a chain welded on it 6" from the end, and at the "latch" end, a chain link welded on with 1/2" cut out of one long length, that could hook over the top barbed. Worked really well, as the leverage against the chain tightened it up, and the best bit, it was all made from scrap.

yes, if the gate is any sort of reasonable length, then you need some way of tensioning it, rather than just pulling it up by hand & slipping a loop over it

as ive said, ive seen some very wide ones & the design of the closing element is the crucial factor. Try pulling 100' of wire gate tight by hand . . .
ive even seen ones that have a small hand winch on them to pull tight, but a longer pole seems to remain the favourite ( cheapest ) method

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
