You have to have a cut off somewhere. I usually say it will be a little more for a small number and will add on a bit more depending on the hassle factor, travel time etc. I can see the benefit of @d williams method, it would put off the small unprofitable jobs without having to say no and possibly causing offence.
 
Just to update my situation.
I've managed to find a second hand part at sensible money so having that. Also informed everyone that baling is now £3.85 for this year raising to £4.20 next year, which surprisingly they seam ok with.
Out of interest how much did you have to pay for it? (pm if you prefer) The one on mine has a one tine broken off and the stops on the bottom are also missing.
