Hi,

Looking at the Axis 30.2, seems like a good buy, but i cant really figure out what im missing on the EMC-model (hydraulic version) vs. the EMC + W? Anyone got a clear picture on the difference?

Got an answer from the resellers, the W is just a weighing cell and a bit superfluous in an EMC-system. Dont really need it as the EMC system takes care of the amount to be spread, and if you have a blockage you get a warning in the EMC-system. A W only system would just open the remaining tract more to compensate, giving a less then optimal pattern.

The only use of the W bit on an EMC spreader is knowing how much you have left in spinner, ie to go and do another field or not before refilling. Ps, EMC -H are great spreaders , had an early version which gave 8 years of big tonnage service before I went to liquid N .

All liquid now , 1400 t/ yr. More accurate and better variable rate control as now 36m boom. Can carry more ha worth per load than a spreader however time lost due to fold and unfold booms, better logistics with liquid, no shed space and empty bags !!
Just one tip with the EMC, make sure you remove discs every so often and wash top of hydraulic motor as the top bearing and seal will go with dried dust/ fert. If the seal goes, Kuhn will say you need a new motor( no spare part for seal) however it WAS a common seal costing maybe £20 so we use to replace ourselves rather than a £1200 motor from Kuhn . As I said, mine was an early Axeria EMC -H (2005) so maybe the new Axis version is different ?
I have a friend who has the Axis PTO version of EMC (2018) machine and it goes well and seems to work well.

Thanks for the tip, will check that out when i get it.

Hm thats interesting, is burning a problem, do you have to go late/early?

Guess you mean scorch [burning] ??
Its fine mostly but need to be careful later on , windy weather will mean leaves rub together and take wax off the leaves or hot days so if you put liquid on, it gets absorbed into leaves rather than run off. It helps that I use streamer bars rather than nozzles and yes if needs be , avoid middle of the days when hot and I try on wheats to get final N on before flag leaf is out. A bit of scorch seems to look worse than it is and crop will grow away but does not look good for a week or so !
Only weird thing last year was I do a lot of maize [1800 ac]and put liquid N on with pre em herbicide . However due to weather and logistics , around 50 acs was up before I could get to the job so agronomist left it a couple more weeks and told me to put the liquid N on at 4/6 leaf stage . I was really unsure about it as I thought it would sit in the growing point and scorch the new growth or kill the whole plant but he assured me that it would be fine, which it was thankfully.
