RDS speed sensor

Does anybody know what sort of sensor I need to provide a speed reading to an RDS meter tramlining system on a drill please?
Google says inductive proximity switch? Is there any particular sort/type or just buy one and calibrate?
TIA

Dont worry hope that sorts its have you lost the sensor or has it stopped working? are there 2 blue magnets still in on the spider wheel?
There is no sensor or magnets. Previous owner reckoned there weren't ever any fitted and he bought it ex demo. Seems a bit odd to me, wiring is all there. Having been used to speed and area on an RDS drill box this seems to be a bit of a backwards step.

Sadly previous owner talking shite. They all had speed sensors fitted what type of drill is it power harrow mounted? Is there a wire that runs down a hyd pipe to near the spider wheel with a plug on the end?

It’s on a FF ultimate I think it’s called. Yes there is such a wire. Looking forward to trying it.

What type of RDS head unit? (picture would help)

iirc, PSi8000 type can be fed a radar feed from tractor or a simulated radar / simulated speed sensor signal from a suitable tractor GPS system, and RDS also sell a simple GPS patch antenna.

Right what you have is either a UDM screen white screen with red writing or it’s successor the wizard but both work the same just different looking control box.

if you have found the loose wire heading towards the land wheel what you need is a 2 wire reed switch sensor that looks like an 10mm fine thread bolt with a wire coming out of it and 2 17mm half nuts with washers on it. There should be a tab to mount it through on the chain casing supporting the spider wheel then connect this to the loose wire. Then on the spider wheel spikes there will be 2 tabs welded onto 2 of the spokes and you need 2 RDS blue magnets and m6 x30 nuts and bolts. These will then pass the sensor when the wheel turners to register a forward speed and area.

once this is all set up physically you need to reprogramme the box which isn’t difficult don’t worry but if you know someone who has worked with these boxes before get them to help and set the circumference of the wheel to 2.43m. While checking sensors just check the fan speed sensor and single red magnet are intact and the sensor and black encased magnet are intact on the metering device distribution shaft and then the sensors on the markers and blue magnets. There should also be a hopper low level sensor which if you put your hand over a small light on the back will light up to confirm it’s working.

whilst your on just check the tramline valves are working and set to the correct sequence using the plus one button.

sorry for the whistle stop tour

cheers

Alistair.

It's exactly as you describe thank you very much, now just need to source the components. Have a manual for the RS box describing reprogramming. Need to have a fiddle with the tramliners too. Your help is very much appreciated.

So connected a sensor and magnets to the land wheel and put in measurements as instructed and we now have speed and area. 👍 sadly now the box is constantly alarming because it isn’t receiving a metering shaft signal when the wheel is turning (there’s no magnets or sensors fitted). So I guess I need to buy these and coder something up. Also the rado tramline valves are being a cow. Work fine on bench but just jam when installed. 🤬 taken apart and cleaned but still can get them to work reliably.

If you can find the wires then just a simple inductive magnet sensor will work for the metering shaft.

Maybe gps is your answer to the tramline problem!!!🤣🤣🤣
Yes. Agri linc sell them but eBay no doubt has far cheaper ones that would be just as good

Magnet is a black plastic oversized washer with 3 little magnets in it. It’s about 40mm in diameter and 10mm thick the sensor you need is the same reed switch sensor. However If you reset the pulses per revolution from 3 to zero on that screen in engineering mode that will disable that sensor for now.

the tramlining valves don’t like beans which cause them to jam otherwise don’t give much bother unless your trying to shut off Fert on a damp day. Are they the type that recirculate the grain into a black box void in the bottom of the tank. Only other thing to check is that the cog isn’t turning on the motor shaft a spot of super glue sorts that and the limit switches are working with the black flap correctly.

any questions keep asking and I’ll see what I can remember

I reset it to zero and it still goes off. Tramliners recirculate.
