got a Lincoln single phase 250amp and a Italian 350 3 phase one both are excellent welders the Lincoln does most farm jobs but i prefer the 3 phase one especially when building in the workshop boc bottles hobby gas works out to expensive got mine on the vlkzone deal much cheaper than normal how long does a bottle last well that. depends how much you use it and how you use it

I don't have three phase, it stops about a mile away so my three phase SIP stands idle, but there is a good Engineering company two miles up the road and if I do the donkey work they are very reasonable price wise. EG, mini digger ditching bucket was an odd one out so I cut the old ears off, made and sent a cardboard template to https://bmc-buckets.co.uk/ which duly arrived assembled with the pins welded in situ. I then took the bucket and ears to the Engineers who glued the new ears on said bucket, oh and a new cutting edge was fitted whilst the bucket was with them.

Look up Adams gas for rent free bottles. Our Oxy is from them and they do full size bottles too. Our Mig is running on gas from energas, on rent, it's dearer unless you use at least 2 bottles a year and they have a local depot I can swap them if I run out in the middle of a job.

I rarely use my gys mig and the wire goes rusty and bungs up the liner, its damp in this country unless everything stored i the kitchen by the rayburn.
Gas is a pita and extra expense as well.

I nearly always use one of the three mma welders. 160 to 300 amps.dc inverters and an ac one for 'magnetised ' steel and trailer drawbar rings ( on higher open volts...7018 , 6010 rods etc for good penitration :sneaky:) etc.

Been on them today as a matter of fact, welding on new solid stub axles to the atv trailer and the 2 hubs to rear drive shafts on the bike using 110 amps and 312 dissimilar rods pleass tell me how that work would be better with mig?

But I do concede that the thing that's getting to me these days is the fumes , which would be a bit less crap on my lungs with mig but then I work mostly outdoors with its fresh air...

P.s. no gas is crap

Rust can be an issue on mig wire if used infrequently. Always store spare reels in a plastic bag. Of course damp is a big issue with spare rods, but are easier to move indoors.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
