Clarke one with 150lt receiver just packed up. This is the second one I've had in the last 8 yrs or so.

Any recommendations out there? Want a decent size reciever, mainly tyres, rads, the odd air tool- scaler, nut gun etc. Prob 3hp motor or above.

Thanks

I have one of these, bought it from Spaldings when they were on offer about ten years ago. Been a good compressor, doesn’t get a lot of work since all the nut guns went electric but plenty of air for tyres and spray painting etc.

Can`t comment on ABAC compressor as I know NOTHING about them, but I had dealings with SGS with one of their own branded compressors and their customer service was arrogant/sh*te:poop: so I`d be inclined to look at other suppliers personally....

Scroll compressor, 30% less electric use, no rattly banging noise, quite a bit more expensive but well worth it if you use it much. I recommend Air Technique Ltd, very helpful and prompt to come out to a small warranty claim, tell them your needs. Avoid SGS.

Just going to say, I was only recommending the compressor not the supplier. It just happened to be the first one that came up when I googled it.
However I will say I have used sgs multiple times without issue but I’ve never had to deal with there customer service department!

If Shiremoor Compressors are still going, I'd look no further.
I've had one of their Sylbo ones for 25yrs, would happily buy again.
@FarmMarketplace had some ABAC shops soiled machines, a while back.

We have a magnum compressor with a good number of years. Couldn’t fault it.

They seem to be good honest British engineering.

No one has mentioned pressure vessel regulations! Exceed 250 bar litres and your insurer gets excited:-(
Good point.
My 15CFM SIP compressor tank was sonically inspected annually for wall thickness along with the lifting equipment.
After twenty years of use it was still within tolerances but close to the minimum thickness in a couple of spots.

250 bar liters is easy to exceed. Most go to 120psi, which is 7.8 bar. You only need a 32l vessel to exceed 250bar liters.
Interesting about min thickness, how would they know that without design calcs?! Must be taking a punt from design code requirements.

We had an ABAC piston compressor which had to have a new compressor unit quite quickly, not quickly enough to come under warranty. We also bought an ABAC scroll compressor from Air Technique, which started weeping oil. It needed a spare part under warranty, which took them some while to get from Italy. When we needed our next compressor, they recommended an Air Wave as being better value for money, and easier to get spares for. Apart from regular servicing, it has not needed any attention so far, and does the bulk of our work. It is so nice to have a quiet, efficient machine, despite the capital cost difference I would never go back to a piston compressor for anything but very occasional use.
