Red Diesel issues anyone else?

Hello,

I had a delivery of red diesel from my usual supplier in March. But I've noticed since then that all my equipment has been giving me grief. Cutting out, under powered, giving up once warm. All different issues but all related to fuel delivery/fuel system.

I've rung up the supplier and they claim they've received no other complaints, I'm not sure I believe them. I won't name who the supplier is but I wanted to see if anyone else has been having any issues with a delivery of red diesel in March.

Always use an aftermarket additive … 1 litre treats 2500 litres of fuel for £30 incl VAT
Stops the dreaded biodiesel slime
Plus that dissolves existing bio bug interface that then goes on to block all filters.
Make sure you use a good water trap and atleast 10 micro filter before tractor also...

If already in tractor drain all tanks, change all filters and any inline filters too.

The amount of time I have drained storage tanks of crap and water is no one's business and it can ONLY come in from tankers???

We had a steel tank on the wall for 35 years and fitters always said how clean the diesel was . Son was learning to drive and reversed the wrapper into the wall, forgot about the table sticking out the back. Tank didn't drop but we had to move it fix the wall ,then put it back. Every machine was on stop within a week,we must have stirred the crap. Some say plastic tanks are worse for bug than steel

My uncle had a simlar problem decades ago, when ringing the oil supplier was told no one else has complained. So he asked for the name and telephone number of anyone else who had taken a red deisel delivery that day. When he rang them they had just the same problem but had not made the conection to the delivery. I cannot remember the outcome but I expect your supplier to go to great lengths to avoid liability if it is their fault, best of luck

I had to tell driver other week to cover tank lid.. it was absolutely pouring with rain and he just opened lid and left open whilst filling..

the rate the fuel tanker pumps fuel into our diesel tank. It always stirs everything up. We always let it settle as long as possible before we use it. we drain the back of the tank occasionally, but never any water. However, our tank is inside

Prevention is better than the cure. Ever since the increased bio/fame content every delivery of fuel needs additive/fuel conditioner.

Possibly but if using all fuel regularly say within 3 months then less chances of bio bugs.
If you put that additive in an old tank of fuel be it storage or tractor tank it will make issues also unless filtered correctly too.

Trouble is bio content is hygroscopic so even when using it fairly quickly theres a fair chance that over time you'll get issues. The other thing to note is that as it absorbs and carries water it takes it right through the fuel system on vehicles/machinery it doesn't even separate in sediment bowls, I do wonder if this is a major factor in injector problems.
Like I say prevention is easier than cure, but if you already have the problem it's too late.
