And the woman who was head of the PO while they were prosecuting all those poor Postmasters and Postmistresses, who lied through her teeth about the PO computer system's infallibility is now head of a large NHS Trust in London. It doesn't matter how much of a complete pile of :poop: they leave behind in one job, they always get another lucrative job somewhere else. Its a merry-go-round where they all look after each other.

Indeed ...... Even made a Dame for her efforts.

Let's all boo Paula Vennells

The poor man's Margaret Beckett .......

But the point is absolutely valid. How these people leap from sinecure to sinecure is outrageous .. and I am afraid bunging the Tories a few quid gets you virtually unlimited government contracts

Seeing an endorsement from Owen Jones (the living embodiment of Dorian Grey) would be enough to make me put the book down unread ... nevermind that it by Russell "The Cock" Brand.

He is a cock for sure (I'm not a fan) - it's actually quite a good book though would you believe !

When we had our inspection we had email after email demanding more and more stuff and info . The final straw was when at the end I had to do a 'telephone ' question and answer session and one question was "how is you realationaship with your wife/partner?" After my explosion she explained " a bad relationship within a partnership can have a negative effect on livestock welfare " to which I flew off the handle telling her to "stick the RT "
We shortly after had an email thanking us for our co-operation and saying we had passed ......
As we now only sell cull cows on the meat trade and all cattle now go as store I think we will not be continuing with it and the actions of the Chair have finally made up my mind .

Pity the Inspector didn't ask "how is your relationship with your Farm assurance Scheme?"

That is bloody ludicrous...!

Just about sums it up
Just what I was thinking, have stuck with NFU as although deeply flawed it is the best voice we have. If they are really backing her we have to ask whose voice they are talking with.

To me, the farcial failure to condemn the NBA and their approach to beef production was poor, this affair just adds weight to my thinking that it is time to pull my Membership too.

You are all wrong.😀

The Lord’s amendment is not workable or practical or desirable.
If it does pass, then mark my words, it won’t stop imports and they will be rubber stamped as “ meeting the same standards as British produce” just as GM soya is by Red Tractor ( for convenience more than anything else).
The imports will still be cheaper due to lower wages and huge scale abroad. They will be cheaper and they will meet our standards so guess which produce people will buy?
If we left them alone as “substandard” imports then RT would serve a real purpose in highlighting the higher standard of British produce and giving people a clear reason to buy it even if it is a bit dearer.

Just when RT could have served a real purpose we want to make imports RT as well, destroying our unique selling point.

I am not even considering the mayhem that will ensue as other countries then impose their own sets of peculiar standards on our exports in retaliation.

If the Lords amendment does pass, what will be the point of the RT mark? What purpose will it serve if all imports also meet it?
Imports won’t stop even if the Lords ammendment passes. If they did we have chronic shortages and sky high prices at least for a year or two. Fine for farmers maybe but not so good for the general population.

this had crossed my mind hence no comment on the question in hand.
But for that to have some weight RT would have to have some standing at the coal face [supermarket shelf] and it don't so the substandard stuff will just be bought

have a read - it's much better than I thought it would be despite my dislike of Russel Brand, it seems particularly poignant right now with whats going on in our world

I thought he was funny before I grew up and tried to read "Booky Wook" or whatever it was called. It was unreadable and made me aware of what a self-aggrandising canute he is.

Speaking of self-aggrandising canutes, I have come to the defense of RT on here many time, but this has utterly sickened me. As mentioned earlier it was a clear conflict of interest and she should have abstained. The fact that she didn't makes both her position as RT chair and seat in the Lords untenable.

If this isn't resolved by either her resignation or expulsion by the board, I can't see a future for RT as an umbrella for the FA schemes. It is not just our hard work and livelihoods that have been undermined, but also the large multinational groups like SAI Global who administer the standards. I believe they are represented on the RT board and must surely have something to say.

If you read all the FW report, they quoted her reasoning for voting against it.

But I have to agree that she should have abstained because of the conflict of interest if she had considered how bad this looks from our side of the argument.
As someone who has been critical of Theresa May's negotiating method with the EU I can sort of see the point she's making but as you say she should have abstained at the very least if she intends to keep her present job.

I don't know what you were all expecting?

It totally undermines Minette Batters exhortations over the past few months. These people in Red Tractor don't really give a damn about food standards - its not even about food standards for them, its just a job. Proper food standards are kept in check by current regulations.

I can't afford to not be a member of an assurance scheme in order to sell stuff, and I do actually blame the NFU for not keeping Red Tractor in check with over the top "standards". I've seen big cheeses in the NFU not adhering to those standards anyway.

Those in favour are only getting what they've asked for. What's new about that?

I agree with you but that virtuous circle AHDB has an "idea" or get consulted, Red Tractor adopts it and the NFU sit by and spout that RT is an essential minimum standard. I could say a lot more from the day job but it wouldn't be appropriate
