Red Tractor webinar

So after I pointed out to Christine Tacon that to hold a meeting about Red Tractor consultation for NFU members and not RT members that are not NFU members was discriminatory she agreed and said she would see what could be done

TFF offered to host a team meet exactly the same as the NFU did - chaired by an independent voice (clearly not me !)

They have instead decided to host their own webinar ( their prerogative I guess) Questions to be submitted and approved in advance and Jim Mosley to be joined by a supply chain representatives (that don't pay for this) whom I'm sure will all tell us what a fantastic Red Tractor is, how consumers love it and why we all want more regulation and extra costs ........ Basically, this will be Red Tractor propaganda hour

Christine tells me there is actually going to be a cereal farmer allowed to speak, not sure who though, and my guess is they will be a past or present NFU or RT board members or employee. I will be amazed if they are anything other than "on message" about this scheme and fail to represent the clear majority right now

I was going to suggest a mass boycott of this face .......... but I don't think they will care, they will simple ay they ticked another box on "consulatation"

so let's all register and bombard them with questions, they won't get asked of course but they will certainly have read them !

Not even the promotion of the webinar misses the chance to tell all us idiots how brilliant Red Tractor is and how successful it has been ......................

Red Tractor was established 20 years ago to reassure consumers that food bearing its logo was safe and responsibly produced. Initially the focus was on food safety, animal welfare and environmental protection but as with all industries, the scheme has evolved to meet changing demands and expectations.

This successful evolution has meant that Red Tractor has become the UK’s most trusted food assurance scheme. Many retailers, caterers and brands use Red Tractor as part of their buying specification. This provides farmers and growers with considerable market access, without needing to meet several differing standards and different audits.

However, at a time of ever-increasing scrutiny, preserving the public’s trust in UK agriculture has never been more important. We cannot afford to be complacent; it is vital that Red Tractor’s standards move with the times to ensure they address changes in legislation, best practice and reflect emerging issues on consumer’s minds.

Your views are important to us. We want to hear directly from our farmer members, and to answer questions about the proposals which have been put forward for implementation in November 2021.

Red Tractor CEO Jim Moseley will be joined by guests from across the supply chain.

Questions may be submitted in advance.
Joining instructions will be sent ahead of the session.

I would submit a question @Clive but it is only for RT scheme members. I am an NFU member ( for now) but not Farm assured as it doesn’t affect my sales of lambs, or store cattle.
My question would be exactly around that.
Qu: Why do my non assured heavy lambs often top the market. The most successful sales I have are to the butchers rather than the bulk buyers. Perhaps they know what the consumer really wants- locally grown quality. No one seems bothered about Farm assured at a local level. I know for a fact a large local butcher promotes them as such at the counter.

Can Jim Mosley tell me if the RT logo is so valued by the consumer could he point out products that display it which are sold at a premium as a direct result of the logo?

And does the premium go back to the grower who funds RT?

I can easily find examples where RT logo’ products are sold at a discount to virtually identical ones next to them on the shelf....

(bag of sugar pic on another thread been one)

Can Jim Mosley please explain why moisture meters need to be calibrated when intakes won’t accept our figure? On farm meters are no more than a guide as far as I can see so pointless cost and paperwork for no gain.

Bizaare that they have their own page on the Red Tractor website, as a 'partner' organisation, and even in their photos they don't show a Red Tractor! https://redtractor.org.uk/dig-a-little-deeper/our-partners/silver-spoon/

I'm not complaining, the union jack is clearly a much more effective branding than a stupid tractor, in 'danger' red no less.At the very least the tractor should either be green or more realistically, a union jack tractor, or more realistically, bin the whole idea.

Almost as ridiculous as the MD of British Sugar who used to go on about how british sugar was the only sugar grown without subsidies, as though the whole growing process wasn't propped up by them.

And another thing (I've started now), do we really want to hitch our wagon to SUGAR?? Even the biggest beet growers in this country hate growing the stuff.

Excellent questions, the moisture meter calibration always irks me as it has no relevance whatsoever, like alot of other RT requirements.

Got this today, red tractor is fine as long as the standards are equal to all country’s , absolute joke of a email about evolving standards further I think the cows in the shed have a better life than the farmer these days less stress at the very least.

gone way above its pay grade
