Removing paths added on ramblers ‘don’t lose your way’ maps

To anyone reading this thread, I am most definitely not an expert on these things, so please get proffessional advice before clobbering anyone.
Where we're you with good advice like that a few years ago when someone was fly tipping out side my yard? Police weren't quite to understanding that time.

Interesting question,if someone is rambling off the official path network and say on one of these ancient defunct paths can you insist they reveal their identity and address?

I‘m pretty sure you can escort them from the property however can you prevent them from leaving if you request their identity.

Is there a legal way of doing this?

@Danllan ?
Not entirely following your wording there, and not my field - forgive the pun - so there may be relatively recent changes or obscure things I am unaware of, but... trespass in itself is not a Criminal offence, so there is no power of arrest. From that, I take it that there is no obligation on the trespasser to reveal their identity.

You can sue for trespass, not that it would do you much good in most cases, but regardless of that you can't 'hold' people for not telling you who they are etc., and to do so will leave you open to a variety of criminal charges - probably starting with assault and going on to wrongful arrest, false imprisonment etc., depending on your status and actions.

Of course, if they act illegally a lot of this changes...

Back a month ago had two walkers following a map that someone had made up .My brother saw them heading down a track .He confronted them and they said they were following a walk.Taking a massive shortcut by avoiding walking a mile around road to cut through to an existing footpath .Bloody cheek of it !

Getting back to the Ramblers map. Shouldn't this be in the public domain? I’m not registering on their website in order to view a map of farm that may or may not include an ancient pow across it.
It's been inferred from the old 6 inch OS maps from 1888-1913 & Bartholomew Half inch maps 1897-1907. From what I can tell, basically anything shown on those that is not present on modern maps gets flagged as a possible lost footpath, but that does not take into account any diversions or official closures. The only thing you need to register is a valid email address, you don't need to give your real name or any other details.
