Rookie Dual Wheels questions…

Hello,

You might roll your eyes at me here…!

Two tractors, one with 16.9/34, the other with 16.9/38’s

I’m mucking around with the idea of dual wheels, and never more so than in this weather…

I’ve been doing some measurements…

16.9/38… adding dual wheels will make the tractor over 3m wide, which is of no use to me.

16.9/34… pretty sure that the duals would clash with the drill bout markers.

Narrowing the tractor wheel widths is not an option I want to do, as they are used for ploughing etc etc, and it’s more hassle than it’s worth.

Could I cut down the mounting tube on the duals, so they sit closer to the tractor?

Is there anything else I’m missing…? Am I just being thick…?

The problem is as the tyres bulge at the bottom if they come close to touching stones etc get pushed into the tyre walls, You can put row crops as duals but need adaptor plates to step down to your 34" or 38" rims,

Usually a tractor on 16.9 x 38 at 72 will be right on 3m it was only when we shifted to 18.4 we went out with 3m .

But yeah just cut the bands or set your tractor wheels in narrower we had to do that last year to get 1 inside 4m but it's on bar axles so was easy to do

Doesnt matter if duals are slightly wider than drill
I always use duals. Even on 650 tyres.
Dont listen to the cbawdpc crowd
(Cant be arsed with duals prefer compaction)

Im sure the place where I worked had 16.9x36 set at 72”……and had the same size for duels, but the bands were cut just enough to make them fit, and it was the same width as the 3m drill

you used to be able to get Stocks step down Duals which fitted 12/38s to 16/34s I know as I had a pair but sold them very long ago. These kept the tractor inside the 3 metre when on 72 centres , Just. Would not be surprised if a dealer such as Les Carter had a pair lying about
