They need to be heat probed to setup properly, they can't really go off timing. Have you been through fuel system thoroughly? Banjo bolts on glass bowl and lift pump are prohe to pick up crap. There's a filter in the lift pump aswell.

What's the symptoms? Underpower or rough running?

Glass bowls are prone to crack, letting air in as well.

As above, the timing is not prone to change, because it is gear driven and a camshaft drives the piston pumps directly.
The water cooled tier2 versions are prone to terrible white smoke and coughing on a cold start, but as soon as they warm up they are fine. I really don't like their water cooled engines.

Starts up with a clater and a bang but then levels out last of the air cooled type

Look out for the simple things first. I'd start by looking for air leaks on the suction side. Fuel filters. That kind of thing. Only then suspect something more mechanical and serious.

By the way, do price the exhaust manifold pair of castings for that engine if you want to give yourself a serious fright.

Black smoke or white smoke or no change in colour from when things were good?
If in doubt gravity feed the lift pump from a 20L tank on the bonnet. pull the air filters out to test

Head Gasket ok ? Are the SAME engines of that era separated cylinder type? i can not remember !.The lazer 110 i used to attend the steering wheel on used be like that when cold but ok when worked a .bit

Try blanking off the fuel pipe to the pre heat on the inlet manifold .
Had problems in the past with fuel running back to tank and air ingress into the fuel system when under load on some of the air cooled engines in the past.

The rubber pipes running up there in the heat are prone to crack and let air in. On my Titan, which has more or less the same layout, I fabricated a heat shield around the turbo to deflect heat from it away from vulnerable rubber and plastic bit in the vicinity. I did that within a few months of buying it new, back in 1993 and it still does the job today.

Its not everyone's cup of tea but it has worked hard for me and keeps on doing so. The only part of it I don't like and have never got on with, and find me someone who does like it, is the clutch. The lack of modulation and consistency of engagement when using the pedal.

It is still a modern tractor today, nearly 30 years after production started. Not many tractors had electronic engine management, electronic nine speed powershift, electronic linkage control with slip control, performance monitor, power utilisation meter, turbocharging and intercooling an air/oil cooled 6 litre engine that sips fuel so parsimoniously for its power, plus massive braking capacity with brakes on all four wheels, back then. Even now you'd struggle to better it on many design points. The only things modern tractors have that are better are front and cab suspension plus 50kph [if you ignore the sharp clutch issue]

Alway thought 1 of them same hurcules 160 would have been a good truck any experience of them
Very old model that one. You are harking back to the early 1980's I think. Never seen one in the metal. The County 1174 and Ford 8210 were really big tractors at the time and the most powerful tractor I recollect locally from that period was an International 1255. The same contractor has a few 956 models that had turbo's fitted and these outperformed the 1255, which was 125hp. Massive power for the early to mid 1980's around these parts.

You'll have a job to beat a same/Lamborghini for grip and safety on steep ground
Grip, maybe. Safety, not so much and depending on the model. On the Explorer and Antares 100 [which should have been called the Explorer 100 really], the front axle engagement was totally at the mercy of a single fuse. No failsafe into 4wd at the time. Others, like MF with their 500 and 600 series had a similarly non-failsafe design but changed to a mechanical design with the 200 series. Oddly, the Same animal tractors, such as the Tiger, Leopard and so on, plus the Laser series also had a good mechanical engagement that was pretty safe.
