Sawmill

Hello

Our sawmill (the one I inquired about earlier in the year) is having some problems. We cannot cut with it as the blade gets very hot in the center and then the wood starts to smoke (and it doesn't cut without slowing the saw)

It is in alignment (we think)
The blades are in good shape

If anybody knows anybody in the west Buckland Somerset area who could fix the saw please let me have their details.

Thanks

The old man used to set ours with a lump hammer, one hit per tooth, every other one turn over repeat, but you buy a saw setter ,not much money

it will be the (now what's the word )the offset off the blades when I sharpen mine I bend one one way and one the other iyswim but I cant think off the word to describe this operation with out it the blade drags makes heat and warps
The blade will require the “set” putting back onto it. as @roscoe erf describes

Apparently because they are inserts you cannot set them

you should have different set blades left and right so to speak
The saw was working OK. It was quite underpowered but it cut OK. Now it won't even cut. Same inserts. I don't think they are the wrong ones? Also the inserts are all the same from the same packet, and don't look to be set at all. They are slightly wider than the blade but only by a tiny bit

On my rack bench the teeth are inserted but wider than the blade itself by a reasonable margin. I'd say yours have worn down to the point that they are no longer wide enough to allow the blade free movement through the log, hence the rubbing and smoke etc. One suspects its one of those things thats fine right up to the point when it isn't. Have you got a stationary picture of the teeth in the blade?

Teeth checked against brand new in the box ones, they look the same width. Will get you a picture now

If it is an inserted tooth saw and it is in the correct alignment with the travelling table and rollers, if it is warming up and flapping about it needs hammering because it has lost it's tension. EPS will be able to do that for you. You can get an idea of the tension by standing it up on a wooden plank and giving it a shake. If it twangs and reverts back stiff or just flops about like a cardboard disc. If the centre of the saw has been heating then it will need work and will have lost it's tension. The centre of a saw is thicker than the outside edge. The side facing the log cut face should be flat and the offcut side won't be.
In your film your blade is moving backwards and forwards too because either the centre hole is worn or the bush is or the arbor is. This means one section of the blade is doing all the work, that needs sorting too. Time for a saw doctor.

I think ' kerf ' is the word
Clearance

I agree with above.

If that blade got hot enough to let go , very bad things will happen.
I enquired about a fergie saw bench years ago , from reputable dealers, he stated that re. The rusty blade installed the invoice would state , blade scrap and not to be used ,
I put a new tct blade on my fergie.

There will be vids on utube re. This
Andy renalds i think discuses kerf.
Good luck

I would be very surprised if it wasn't built/designed so the blade comes off easily. Have you looked?
Some pictures would be a help and no doubt someone will tell you. My blade comes off simply by knocking the clamp around to unscrew it.
