Mice have been having a nibble in the seed bags. Can i put it into IBC’s or does the seed wheat need to “breathe”?
Sounds a great idea & cant see why its an issue aslong as you keep it in a dry & dark place
but i have to ask how do you plan to get the seed out again after?
The Americans have got seed storage sorted in them plastic totes but dont ask me how they work
but seem so much safer than big bags

I was going to empty the seed bag into the screw top lid, put the lid back on and rotate 180 degrees and unscrew lid to fill drill.
Worried about seed “sweating” though?

Exposure to air is actually a big factor in the germination rate of seed falling. The larger the container the better as there is less surface area.

I remember being in a German grass seed store years ago and asked why they were spilling 25kg bags into big plywood boxes - the answer was that the seed will keep better.
Exposure to air and temperature fluctuations knock the hell out of it.

We put our left overs in IBC’s. Bit of a job to get out, we have a rotator on a forklift and tip the seed in the telehandler grain bucket. Then tip that in our box drill.

Have had rats chew the spout hole and get the grain out way!

They found plenty of viable barley in the pyramids 🤷🏻‍♂️

It was kept dry and cool underground. Without driers and cooling fans in a hot climate they had to think of other ways of preserving grain stocks. Necessity is the mother of all invention :)

The Egyptians also used wet grain as a tomb raider guard - build in sumps within the tombs and the carbon dioxide from moist germinating grain created deadly pockets without oxygen to deter the robbers.
