Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with seeding AD plants in the UK? This plant needs seeded in the coming months and I can't seem to find a company that will seed?

Any help appreciated, cheers!

We started ours off with 15 tanker loads from the local Anglian Water plant Monsal stage. It came in at well over 40°C, gave over 70% methane and FoC. They were going to charge us haulage but did not in the end. Heaps of paperwork to complete though.

You probably know this already but the position statement from the EA was withdrawn a few years ago for seeding non-waste AD plants with sludges/wastes.

If you have waste authorisation then I would approach your local water company but if you don't you will just have to seed with digestate from the primary tank of a local digestor (some really overvalue it though).

But as above, water works gear is the best if you can get it.

Seeded mine from a local plant, with dairy slurry and cadburys chocolate waste, worked a treat. Not sure what sort of tank you have, but you will need to put in a boiler to heat the tank before you fill it, and then keep the digester warm until the CHP is running, plenty around offering mobile boilers, but get quotes as prices vary widely..
