I have not heard all details but yesterday in Welshpool market a cow went berserk in the ring and jumped into the crowd causing serious injuries.

That's what I thought... perhaps it did not happenAny more on what happened here? Cow would have done well to jump out of the ring, it's about 8ft high!
Been like that in Hereford for donkeys years . I think getting in the ring with your cattle is very much a northern thing .In skipton you already aren't allowed in the ring to sell, a member of the board shows all cattle while the seller stands on a podium next to the auctioneer.
Seems crazy that in a way. Surely your cattle would be more spooked with a stranger than with you?In skipton you already aren't allowed in the ring to sell, a member of the board shows all cattle while the seller stands on a podium next to the auctioneer.
To be fair to them the man that does it seems a very good stock man, calm and knows where to be and when it get out of the way.Seems crazy that in a way. Surely your cattle would be more spooked with a stranger than with you?
My eldest often comes with me to the mart, represents my bulls with me as well, not in the ring mind. He behaves and it gets him used to the mart, when I buy calves at leyburn there is hell on if I don't take the daughter.amazes me how lax the whole h&s is in mart. Like its not an issue. Risk assessments should be stating that around the ring should be checked before the public enter. Seen too many kids running around in half terms completely out of control on one occasion some where throwing tiny stones at my boys and acting like idiots. Kids under 14 should not be left to be feral just because they act like this at home. Rubbish is also a trip hazard amazes me farmers thing they can chuck it all down on the floor and on the steps. Dont start me on the smoking.
It’ll be like going to church................not that I go very often but have heard the speech on where the fire escapes are etc in a few now.Noticeable today the auctioneer mentioned H&S rules in cattle ring at Exeter.
Not heard that before in any great detail
Two injured from what I heard too, if the information I’ve been told is correct, one the grandson of a well known man who shows fat cattle and the other a buyer, don’t want to add names just in case it’s not rightTwo were injured from what we heard yesterday. One farmer had a bad leg break and the other farmer had a knock on the head. .The heifer jumped up against ring enclosure and took one of the ring gates up with her before going through into stands. Allegedly the pin locking the ring gate down was not hooked. Air Ambulance was on scene.
Unlike some of the other yard staff, before & after the ring, if they"re farmers sons, you"d think they"d know better. No wonder some cattle are wild.To be fair to them the man that does it seems a very good stock man, calm and knows where to be and when it get out of the way.
Carlisle mart is known as the "Carlisle creche" mostly regarding Bull sales, but you know what I mean.amazes me how lax the whole h&s is in mart. Like its not an issue.
