For an industry that claims to have the best welfare standards in the world surely an annual vet visit is not unreasonable?
Yes if you are charged a fortune and the vet sent out knows less about sheep than you do. (without meaning to sound immodest but i have had experience of that )
as said above ive been with the same vet for over 40 yrs my type of farming hasnt changed we use antibiotics a rarely as possible and little.
They know me , or should do why should i have to pay through the nose and have my integrity and years experience and care, insulted by some unproductive help not help me paperwork tick box ?

ok then , If they (whoever they are) want to improve welfare standards they can get onto tag manufacturers and make them design a more animal friendly and longer lasting ear tag .

what's needed is people who think about what's happening and have the intelligence to look at things to improve.

not idiots who breed sheep with the right amount of black spots on their faces and thinks that's good for the industry (well they don't do they they are just keeping their own show right ) and yes that's mules i'm referring to.

don't like it ? no well that's tough tits .

The attestation is about showing the buyers (Export in particular) that we are good --i know you're good and so does your vet but the buyer from Germany doesn't..

The animals health and welfare offer is separate, open to all sheep keepers and could well pay for the attestation?
If you have a vet who is on the ball and trying to help you then the payment should cover the FEC requirements, the vets time , an attestation and still have cash left over to do something else like Johnes/MV screening/mineral level sampling /anything else that could be useful
If your vet can't do this then i'd look elsewhere
