Slow payment

Thats why i cant get through my head all those that make out that we dont need any sub. I know in my situation i can pay my bills on time (with in reason) but without my sub i couldnt. Simple as that. When the bps comes in hopefully on time there is a fair chunk will go back out within that month.
So what happens if your SFP is delayed for nine months or so .i could think of nothing worse than being in a possition of not be able to pay your bills but it can happan to anyone, it needs understanding in both sides .

Best way then everyone is happy and invoices should be sent out when the job is still fresh in the customers mind.
Farming is hard going at the moment but if you can't afford it don't have it?
Pretty harsh I know but fairs fair?
Exactly; I would never ask for a job to be done, nor buy something, if I hadn't the money to pay for it. If you cannot afford something don't have it.
However, if it's a genuine case of unforeseen cash flow problems on a temporary basis, then at least be pro active and explain the situation to your supplier. In most cases the supplier of goods or services will appreciate this explanation and be prepared to allow some leeway.
There is nothing worse than people just ignoring the issue or failing to respond to repeated requests/phone messages etc.

But surely if you didn't have any SFP coming you wouldn't keep spending would you?

They'd just make some other excuse up for not paying

Our builder did some work for a woman on a council farm, sent her the bill, cheque comes back, minus the Vat as she's not vat registered :scratchhead:he had to foot the vat in the end

She was that tight, she wouldn't let them charge up the drill batteries on her electric

I have this strange agreement called an overdraft facility.. this is what I use to pay people when income has dried up for a few months. Wether it is waiting for stock sales or the bps money. Keeps the wheels turning and suppliers happy.. I understand there are situations where people are up to their nuts in it and can't pay, but I know some who just use their suppliers as free borrowing..

There's plenty of replies to this thread of helpful advise of trying to secure the cash earlier and minimise the risk, which is all good but like myself we see a job, agree the price, get on with it, one invoice at the end, I don't want to waste time having separate invoices and customers supplying the wrong materials etc, if they just paid by there terms like they say they would it wouldn't be an issue.
It takes the pee, farmers may get the sfp late but the corn cheque or milk cheque isn't 3 months late, if you can't afford it don't get it done.
If anything that could cause my business to go bust isn't lack of profit or living beyond my means it's cash flow from slow payers, it really fecks me off

Removal of subs would have varying levels of impact on British farming depending on farm size, efficiency and circumstances. However, if we knew in advance that the sub was finishing then many of us would have to have a fundamental re think on our business strategy. Economies would have to be made and harsh decisions taken. You would at least do forward budgets accordingly.

I would agree that in most cases it would certainly not be possible to just carry on spending on as before.

We did have a shed company go bust on us, start up under a new name and go bust again! They wanted us to pay for stuff up front in the end, they never did finish the work and we still owe the final payment and still need to finish the shed!

Don't get yourself backed into a financial corner, take the week off the current job and drive round with the lads to all the sites collecting money for the jobs you've done. There is no excuse for not paying their bills by now, it should be them declaring bankruptcy, not you, but the farmer won't need to as he can live off his assets, he should extend his overdraft and pay his bills.

Edit: i've just seen on companies house that the same bloke has started up again!

The firm that used to advertise here ?
