Spring ?

Apart from a little bit if grass greening up , I think I have the first certain signs of Spring . I always seem to have a few Red admiral butterflies that overwinter in my office ( well, what I laughingly call "My office") I'm not sure whether they overwinter as pupae or some other state , and I never see them before Spring - perhaps it's eggs behind the curtains ? But I'm really pleased that they do . Anyway , right on cue I saw one fluttering about this a.m. so , as usual, I put a small saucer of sugar water out on the windowsill , useless ? I don't know . Also I had a big wasp beating it's head against the kitchen window so that's another good sign .

Yes , I think so and nice to see.

The buds on the Hawthorn are showing leaf as are young Hornbeam .
Catkins and pussy willow in good form , and elder with full leaf now.

The last couple of days there has been a change.

No grass though too many mouths eating it anyway.and i guess its roots are closer to the surface with cool night temps still.

had two brimstone butterflies in the garden last week and bees are getting regular this week but its going to be thermals back on for a few days so will slow down

Sitting out on the old milk stand in the sun on Saturday , I watched a solitary bumble bee - quite huge really - who was presumably researching a nesting site . It was popping in gaps in the dry walling , staying for a short while , and flying out again , only to return with the same agenda an hour later . Would that be it's aim I wonder ?

Pure greening up around here... Lawn at home has spiked early... I had to buy fuel and see if the the mower ran after catching fire last year. Bit of Carb damage no filter but she ran.

Buds on hawthorn and Clematis

Sure I heard Curlew lastnight
