Bonkers basically. £100 - £180/tonne for wheat straw I've seen. The trade are offering around £110/t presently but at some sales you are seeing the high final prices being obtained because two end users won't stop bidding. I wish it just would settle at £80/t ex farm every year then all parties would be happy because selling at £50/t isn't viable for the producer and buying at £180/t for the end user isn't viable either. If it leaves the arable farm at £80 and get delivered to the end user at £110 then everybody including the merchant makes a bit, although I strongly suspect the merchants are going to have a tough time ahead and be pushed out of the game.
Social media and sites like this are connecting the arable boys and the end users so why is a middle man needed? Haulage is easy to sort out with plenty of flatbeds looking for work. We've been sending 33 (8ftx4ftx4ft) bales out on flatbeds since october. Proper wagon and drags only take 38 so there's nothing in it from that point of view. We are getting full payment prior to collection.
most crops are floating!!Next year could be interesting too, if it don't stop raining sharpish. Maybe others aren't getting the rain we've had lately in West Wales ????? Some crops looking decidedly meh.

We bought less cattle but big ones have finished faster than expected so had a good clear out and reduced straw usage. Also dictated by not much barley and loathed to buy it .The price of straw this winter must be pushing folk towards cubicals / slatts or just going out of beef cattle surely ? Can’t be viable to bed beef at some of the prices quoted here .
