Tipping water troughs

I've a mix of IAE and Bateman. Price on the day probably determined which I bought.
Of the 2, I prefer the Bateman.

However, I've found longevity to be an issue with both makes and will probably be switching them out for quick empty type troughs as they fail.

Are the IAE and Bateman stainless
What problems do you have affecting longevity

No just normal, they don't last long enough to need the extra spent.

Moving parts = wear and tear. You don't think it would be much but it adds up I guess.

The troughs also have a bar which sticks up. You use them to lift, n, tip.
These are a magnet for cows to scratch on. Over time this results in the bolts, either floor or wall mounted getting loose. Then you have a mobile trough, which can end up upside down, bent etc.
Once a trough is bent, the drips start, you know the rest.

They are fab when they first go in though

I had a welder in to the wall mounted ones in the summer.
8 years old I think they are.

He put some fair metal back in them and said if the cows rip these off now he will repair them for free.

I've a 3 year old IAE tipper that is highest up the list for swapping.

My oldest trough will be a 10+ year old Bateman.

Just bought a new iae because it’s the only one I could get at short notice. They’ve changed the design so it spins with out dropping the front down and a lever that folds down.

It's the front bar thing that gets attacked by cows and makes them harder to use.

Also the spec of the flexible pipework twixt the trough and the water pipe can wear in time.

What do the stainless troughs offer than a concrete one with a 2" drain bung doesn't? Have a new shed done and I'm at the stage of buying drinkers for it.

Don;t tip but quick emptying ones from Teemore
This would be my choice next time, iae and Bateman galv tip overs here for 5 years they are starting to show their age after constant cow rubbing
Teemore quick empty here. Bought one to try and very pleased so we have just bought another.

Teemore are ok but we have 6 4m ones and they are nowhere near as good as our Jyden Burr ones
We find teemore too deep so crud up quickly, edges are very sharp, tip out valve gets stiff so needs a lot of leverage to move and build quality isn’t fantastic.

I’ve got 11 iae tippers and every one of them is a leaky worn out pain. Bought one teemore stainless and will never go back to iae.
how is the Jayden better? Never heard of them

I’ve got Bateman tippers, floor mounted. Poor, rusted through, valve box is weak.
Better job is a concrete trough with a 3” rubber bung. I’ve got two 14’6” ones at the end of the shed, the pipe is exposed on the wall side, not a problem, the base is angled from the sides to the centre bung.
