Toyota Land Cruiser pick up

What is wrong with the 70 series? Looks a heavy duty reliable tow car to me.. and reasonably easy to work on?

not easy to work on. The v8 doesn’t leave much room in the engine bay and some components tucked in the v. Alternator was very hard to get out when it needed rebuilt.

it had a set of injectors at 200000km. So probably not long until it needs them again.

extremely uncomfortable on anything but a trip around the block. The amarok will walk all over it in terms of power and stopping ability. Also feels more planted with 4 plus ton behind it. The mrs drives it mostly and loves it but even she is starting to say she needs something more comfortable otherwise she will be continuing to get fortnightly treatments to be able to walk.

That's disappointing.. we are fed up with the gutless hilux and were pricing a 70 series. Hoped it would have been as good as the old 80 series. Even the 60 series was comfortable enough for us..

70 series and the 80 series are very different beasts. Ones a rough as guts ute the other was a refined suv for it’s day
But both big displacement engines with loads of low down torque. Heavy duty driveline and easy to work on live beam front axle. Minimal electrical nonsense is a big plus for us.

Anybody use a sliding floor in their pick up to cure the access problem ? Commercial ones are £600 upwards, I made mine for £20, plus what I had lying around. Won't pull out with a dozen feed sacks on it, but useful for toolboxes and small stuff.

The 100 series make a good pickup after conversion

I have one, rated at half a ton I think but as we supply a lot of grass seeds, it’s great to stop the need from climbing over that bloody tailgate to get the few bags at the front. Wish I had bought one years ago.

Big thumbs up for Dan at Cult Commercials , just purchased a beautiful 79 series , right hand drive single cab , 13 yrs old but zero rust .

He mostly sells new stock and is as genuine as they come ,been an absolute pleasure to deal with .

Gorgeous but £65k for a 81,000km 3 years old truck stalls me a bit.
Not mine by the way, it is an advert on fb

I have one of the last hzj79's that were delivered directly in the EU. Later it was only possible to import them with aftermarket exhaust filters and other crap.
I made a canopy myself. It has an underfloor storage for hand shovels and other long tools. I have 2 doors at the sides and because the bed and sides are low and thin it is easy to get your tools out without need for crawling on your knees in the bed. In my opinion it's better to get all your tools out from the outside, than climbing in a low and narrow van all the time. I wouldn't want to miss the tailgate, I use it as a workbench, shelve and seat with lunchtime!

And I have a drawer for my toolbox so I don't have to climb in:
