Tractor front end loader - additional forward reach

Neighbour uses their Massey 5713 to unload lorry loads of straw.

Where he brings the lorry in he has to unload all from 1 side.

His issue arises when he just can't quite reach the far side of the trailer. He has talking to me about having some something to give him that but more reach. I said I'd post it on here for him for some ideas.

He said 18 inches more would be ideal but obviously doesn't want it sitting out 18 inches all the time.

Has anyone on here done similar?

A scissors linkage supported on 2 heavy spikes which would allow them to penetrate the bale allowing the extension to be retracted once the bales are lifted from the far side of the truck ?

I'd been thinking like a back frame with bushes welded in, then a front part with rods to go through the bushes and a ram to push it in and out. That way could push it out when needing the reach but pull it all back in when the bales were spiked.
