Tractor test at 16

Daughter wants to do this later this yr. She can apply for her provisional next month. Once she turns 16 can I give her lessons sat in the passenger/operator training seat on L plates or it just straight to test centre and test.
Anything involved since I did it many moons ago.... Think it was 26yrs since I done mine and the bloke followed me in his car. Do they still do that or allowed in the cab these days?

For tractor tests the examiner usually comes to the nearest village
Grandson did his last year. Examiner stood on the roadside & watched him go up & down the village then asked a few highway code questions.
All basic stuff

Local contractor`s son turned up for his test with the beast of the fleet.
Examiner said you have 20 minutes to come back with something smaller, - which he did, but in the panic left his licence in the 1 st tractor. Fortunatly the examiner was enjoying his easy day in the countryside so job got sorted to everyones satisfaction

My Son did his two years ago. The examiner came to our farm. I did my crawler test at the same time. The examiner stays on the ground and asks you to carry out a few simple driving activities including a three point turn and an emergency stop. They also ask a few Highway Code and road signs questions. He did his in a Puma 175 which they were happy with!

That's what I did many yrs ago. Not sure who's done it around us to ask. My 155 is bang on the width but probably keep her on the smaller 150 4 cylinder.

The test is the easy bit. Wait until the cops pull you up and tell you that you are not allowed to drive a Leyland 154 tractor on the road at 16. How do I know? Daughter got stopped, I went to the cop shop and explained the actual width rules. 'oh, err err', red faces all round. They always gave her a smile and a 'friendly' wave after that.

Hi all,

I'm currently 16 and looking to take my tractor test. However the insurance company the tractor is with won’t allow me to drive the tractor on the road unless I’ve passed the test. This means that it’s not even possible for me to take the test if I can’t drive the tractor on the road to, during and from the test. Is anyone else in this situation? Any advice is greatly appreciated

thanks

What are you going to do as I’m going to do mine this year too and I’ve just received my provisional licence. The insurance company the tractor is with say only people who have passed their tractor test are insured to drive the tractor on the road. Is this the same with you and is there a way around this do you know?

Certainly you must not take a vehicle on the road if it is not insured. It would certainly ensure the test was a failure.
you have no option but to change the insurer. It is possible a local farmer insured with the NFU would lend you a tractor for the day

We rang up the NFU and they are the same and say they can only ensure people who have passed the test which I assume doesn’t cover getting to, during and from the test

Are you sure you are reading the terms correctly. Normally it will be for any person with a licence to drive, which a provisional is
