Trailed sprayers

farms going back to trailed since with the stupid price of sp machines, we went an looked at the top spec amazon trailed machine last wee. They are leaning towards amazon an kuhn (we get great support from the dealer that sells both) just wondered what people opionions are that may be using either of them? 4/5000l with 30m boom an pretty high spec if not top spec

Look at the new Horsch AX - same boom tech as the 100k LT and GS machines but circa 40k price tag

Chafer really good on used values and good machines as well

I know exactly what you mean about self prop prices - make no sense at all

@Rob Holmes might have a Kuhn? Plenty of happy Amazone users in TFF

Don't forget to look at Chafer and Horsch too.

I really like the look of the amazon with the comfort+ pack on it looked lovely to use, the horsch was orginal first choice but the dealer is far away an we never worked with them so the boss is keen to stick with the dealer the majority of our stuff comes from just for the excellent back up we already get

A horsch was the first choice but since they moved to being with a claas dealers put that out the window since the boss hasnt had the best of experience with the local class dealer

£230k for the amazon pather how they justify the prices of them, where as can have a new trailed amazon sprayer an a x demo decent spec tractor for £140ish an a extra tractor in the yard for other things

Isn’t there a potential health and safety down side to trailed sprayers? Completely decontaminating a spray tractor every time it changes jobs is quite an undertaking. This isn’t an issue with self propelleds because the operator is always wearing appropriate PPE.
Being a one man band I can conveniently gloss over this point, but it could be more of an issue with paid labour in these increasingly litigious times?

Surely the whole outfit would be cleaned before the sprayer is removed??

A whip over with some TFR or dedicated degreaser would remove most residues easily.

The key phrase being “most of the residues”. Ensuring the inside of the cab is in contaminated is also quite difficult in practice.

Was going to say why would the interior of the cab be laden with chemical? You should not wear any PPE in the cab and should not be going near the sprayer or chemical without wearing it either. This has been suggested practice since the time I did my PA certficates at least.

If you were concerned by residues on the cab floor or similar then again a good degreaser like britemax sprayed on and worked in with a paintbrush then wiped off would be as good as anything. Could do inside of the windows, all controls and interior panels and protect the seat with dedicated protective covers you can wash. Change the cab filters and it would be good as new then.

Its no different to some contractors in self propelleds who virtually live in the thing. Much depends on the use of decent cabin filters and appropriate PPE.

Cheers @Brisel!

We were in similar position when we were looking to change sprayer, either get a used basic SP or an all singing, all dancing trailed. So we went for a Kuhn Metris 3202, it was the first in the country, and overall I'm very pleased with it. It's got 24m Pommier booms TR4 mid spec which are very good, and not cracked as Pommiers have the reputation of doing.
Boom suspension is very good and general usability is good too.
My ONLY issue with it is that the pump is a complete nightmare to take out, I have managed it on my own but it takes about 2 hours to do, and refitting is harder. I spoke to Kuhn about this at LAMMA and apparently they are looking to resolve this with future models, the latest Oceanis has overcome this.
Machine-wise I would have another but due to dealer changes I won't

Apologies if i have painted a dark picture of the machine, I stress, it is very good with few weaknesses, and I've had very little issues with it (bearing in mind it was one of the first!) and if you have a good dealer then I would recommend one.

P.S. If you're local then feel free to pop in and take a look

Take a look at a Knight also made in uk so if all else fails drive to factory which is central just off a1. Top company to deal with decent people and can spec to exactly what you want. Otherwise as mentioned chafer sound well designed machines.

Both of these are uk made and I feel we should as uk farmers support uk manufacturers where a suitable alternative is available. Or how can we ask the uk housewife to support us. I’ll get off my soapbox now.
