Civil(?) servants think everyone buys the latest fashion be it trucks or shoes, also are very slap dash in their work, so cant believe that anyone would be so "last year" as to be driving an old truck! The instructor on my Speed awareness course had to go and find out, but did confirm that I was correct. Trouble is, I cant remember the cut off date now!

No have not lengthened it Allan just got to get it ploughing right now, after the other week's match the nut behind the wheel did not do well :(
You need a day in this "nuts" shoes! I will fit the new fuel gauge sender, say`s he! That turns into a tank removal, which shows up some potential rust problems! Which are repaired. Then the world turns white and slippery, so no deliveries arrive so no tank sealer! Also to cold to play outside! When things return to normal, test show up a poss gauge fault so out comes the dash to fit the spare.Fit gauge cluster to find one tag on the printed circuit is missing! Check and fit printed circuit from old cluster! While there it seems a good idea to replace all the bulbs, only no one local has any! I may make the Devon match on the 25th, if I am lucky!

Q590: What types of vehicles are not allowed in the outside lane on the motorway?
The types of vehicles not permitted to use the right hand (offside) lane on a motorway, which has three or more lanes open for use by traffic travelling in the same direction are:

  • a goods vehicle having a maximum laden weight exceeding 7.5 tonnes,
  • a goods vehicle having a maximum laden weight exceeding 3.5 tonnes but not exceeding 7.5 tonnes, which is required to be fitted with a speed limiter
  • a passenger vehicle which is constructed or adapted to carry more than eight seated passengers in addition to the driver the maximum laden weight of which exceeds 7.5 tonnes;
  • a passenger vehicle which is constructed or adapted to carry more than eight seated passengers in addition to the driver the maximum laden weight of which does not exceed 7.5 tonnes, which is required to be fitted with a speed limiter.
  • a motor vehicle drawing a trailer
  • a vehicle which is a motor tractor, a light locomotive or a heavy locomotive.
There are exceptions to this rule, which are:

  • when it is necessary for the vehicle to be driven to enable it to pass another vehicle which is carrying or drawing a load of exceptional width.
  • for a vehicle to change lane during a period when it would not be reasonably practicable for it to do so without involving danger of injury to any person or inconvenience to other traffic.
Cool....my 7.5 tonner doesn't need (or consequently have) a speed limiter, as its pre-2001...............its the fast lane at 70 for me!!

I guess they must have clarified this stuff in the last few years on the Gov website...

Ah, its in the small print "a goods vehicle with a max laden weight not exceeding 7.5 tons, which is required to be fitted with a speed limiter" No limiter= no restriction.

1st of January 2008

The final phase of EU speed-limiter legislation will cover CVs from 3.5-7.5 tonnes first registered on or after January 2005. Currently these vehicles are allowed to do 70mph on the motorways, just like private cars - but from 1 January 2008 they will be limited to 56mph.

Where is the best place to get lorry insurance if it doesn't meet the NFU's vintage lorry criteria, that is 15 years old.
I have a quote of about £116, fully comp for vintage, but because it is only 14 years old they want 8 to 900 hundred, which for me is a non starter.
Just wondered if any of you guys know of anywhere more reasonable?

South Essex Insurance brokers used to do very cheap horsebox and private truck insurance.

Try Footman James I know they do motor sport stuff so must be using trucks to move them around my vintage tractors are on a bulk deal with them.
1 is not classed vintage (to young) by NFU so NFU wanted more for that 1 tractor than Footman James want for all 5.

Walker Migeley, Sheffield, google it, van, lorry and low loader policy,
£240 per year, regardless of age, even new lorry if you want,
social domestic and pleasure, with commute to work as well, carry any of own goods, including your tractor and plough or other stuff to and from shows, matches etc, even a greenhouse for your mother,
best policy by far for the money

I used "Cherished Car Insurance" for my truck, NFU a mile off. Nobody seems to be able to touch NFU for my tractors and they appear to be the only ones that will include implements written into the insurance ie my plough.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.
