Treating scab in lambing?

Routinely dip everything in the Autumn, but somehow it's come in halfway through lambing.

Been advised by Vets not to dip ewes and young lambs (~3 weeks) as the scent can lead to mis mothering, has anyone any experience with this?

Always found Dectomax/Cydectin a complete waste of time, and apparently accidental overdosing young lambs even by 0.1ml can lead to deaths

Thanks

We had neil fell come and dip ours 2 weeks before lambing with his cage dipper and he was saying he has dipped lambs as young as 3 weeks before so would say give him a ring

3 week old lambs will be fine if you dip them.

Just do them before lunchtime so they have chance to dry off/ mums find them etc before it gets dark and colder.

Is it definitely Scab?
We have seen a high level of Lice this April which can look like Scab with sheep rubbing and pulling wool.
Don't forget the long withdrawal period when handling sheep that have been dipped and selling for slaughter.

Yeah definitely scab. Was hoping it was lice, a splash of dysect would've been far easier 😓

We made the mistake this Jan thinking we had scab that turned out to be lice.
Everything injected with Dectomax after bloods taken from 12 yearling mules bought in last autumn that 1 or 2 were looking scraggly and itchy.
1 came back with positive antibodies for scab and Vet said treat the flock as positive.
Wasn't until a bit later found the lice and that antibodies can stay in the blood for around 9mths, obviously had it as a lamb on the farm of birth.
Ewes had 20ml crovect along spine with a "line" nozzle out of the lambing pens. Wont be 100% but everything looking fine at the moment.

We have dipped thousands of ewes and lambs over the years and never had any issues with miss mothering.

Dipping young lambs is fine with the cage dip would be a bit more hesitant with the conventional dip tank mind.

If you want any advice give me a call.

Cheers. Gonna try a handful today through the conventional dipping bath today and see how they get on.
May need someone with a cage if it's hassle

Have you taken any land out of production from last autumn?
